No gas -- what do you do?

This is a great read. My take is: Your gear breaks, jams, corrodes, wears out, gets banged up, oxidizes, etc. etc. and the best you can do is buy good stuff, be careful with it, and service it regularly. But sooner or later, gear tends to fail, unpredictably. And when your gear fails...

    Boaters Inattention

I'm a diver AND a boat driver, and I have a few observations: 1. Dive flags can be very difficult to see, depending on their design, location on the boat, how big they are, and which way the wind is blowing. I have missed them on other boats until I got too close. 2. Divers or swimmers...

Which HARNESS and why? for your BP/W

The Hog style will serve you well IMO. And if you ever need to cut yourself out of it, or cut anything at all, RJP in another thread showed us THIS cool gadget: EEZYCUT "Trilobite" line cutter. Post #65 at...

    new regulator whistles

I spent a week diving with a group on Roatan, and one of the divers had a whistling regulator. This was THE most annoying thing I have ever experienced underwater. My advice is not to use it until it's fixed. This whistling is extremely dangerous. Other divers will do ANYTHING to make it stop!

Which HARNESS and why? for your BP/W

I never have problems getting out of my rig on a boat or underwater, but... My wife and I were recently drift diving in Mexico from a Panga (20-foot open boat with outboard engine) and the SOP there was to slip out of your rig at the surface and hand it up, before you clambered up and over...

    TSA got you down?

Allison is right, and even if the enhanced techniques aren't yet in place, I honestly don't believe that the TSA is going to fondle anyone's privates. I think there is a tendency in these difficult times, for people to overreact to things. But when the going gets tough, underwater and above...

    scuba today?

Excellent point. At age 61 I needed corrective lenses in my mask. I needed to get in better physical shape (both cardiovascular and legs) and lose weight. If you are conscientious, you will realize that you owe your buddy and fellow divers a duty to be a help, and not a burden. A rescue...

    scuba today?

I returned to diving two years ago after a 25-year hiatus, and went through the whole set of courses from OW through MD with my wife. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot, and I highly recommend it. There have been too many changes to list here. Much of the basic equipment is similar...

Scuba Gadgets - what's great and what's not

Thanks, RJP - I just ordered two of them. Six inches is about right, but I hook my retractor to a hole in the backplate, which puts the Cobra high and tight on my left hip.

Scuba Gadgets - what's great and what's not

I agree with the OP's list except for Retractor Clips. My wife and I use them on our AI computer consoles (Cobra) and like them. We've had no real problems, excepting that they seem to have a useful life of only about 2 years. IMO they are easier to use than bolt snaps.

Merry Cristmas to you, too, Todd. And Merry Christmas to all my Scubaboard friends. I hope you get some cool new scuba gear in your stockings.

Neat Little Tricks Are Good to Know

Ha Ha! I used to have one years ago, but never found a use for it. I like to travel with everything in carryons, and we often dive in protected areas, so knives are usually not welcome. This might be the only option... Or those V weight pouches that fit in the center groove of a...

Neat Little Tricks Are Good to Know

That's interesting. I wonder if lopsided buoyancy is common. When I dive in tropical water with my SS backplate, AL80, and no suit, I use 4 pounds of lead, because zero is not enough and two 2-lb weights is the minimum available. My ideal weighting might be 1, 2, or 3 lbs, but no dive op...

Thanks for posting the evidence. Whoever did this to you should pay dearly. No Scuba diver should be humiliated like this!
