What to do if your computer dies

Wow. This kind of "wisdom based on experience", not science, is interesting to me. So you're saying that we should assume that this diver, since he has a high level of diving experience, probably has been bent enough over the years to understand his limits. No one "knows" their individual...

Please aid me in my pursuit of purchasing gear

All of the name brands make good gear for your pursuit. I'm partial to Zeagle, Scubapro, and Halcyon if you ever get into tech or prefer a backplate/wing. You may want to consider used gear, if you look hard enough you can find barely used gear at half off the list. It's nice to buy...

Halcyon Al BP and 30 lb wing

I'm looking for a gently used Halcyon aluminum backplate and 30 lb wing. I have a harness so don't need that included.

Which HARNESS and why? for your BP/W

I use the Halcyon Cinch because of limited shoulder flexibility.

Delaware Water Gap Mishap takes one life

Very sad. I'm in the area, lots of rain the past few days and the rivers are up. Very swift currents. Condolences to those that knew him.

Sherwood SR1 or Zeagle Flathead 7?

I have a FH 7 primary and FH VI as a pony/back up reg. Love them both.

Help Me Choose the Perfect BP/W Setup

I agree that there is no need for all the padding and extra buoyancy. I bought the Halcyon Infinity rig and removed the integrated weight pockets, back padding and shoulder padding. Alternatively you can buy the standard rig and add the cinch system.

    diving is my dream but...

I had similar problems and it prevented me from trying to dive for a long time. There is a big difference between diving with a regulator and snorkeling or holding your breath. When on scuba, I found that I can equalize, it sometimes takes some work but that's ok. I would have earn pain when...

Help Me Choose the Perfect BP/W Setup

Tobin at DSS or Halcyon. I chose the Halcyon because of the cinch system, I have limited shoulder flexibility and the cinch is much easier to get in and out of for me. It's hard to recommend a set up without knowing if you are a warm or cold water diver (or both) and if you dive wet or dry...

    Came up too fast

Air can get trapped. You have to know when you add air to the wing, it will be there unless you dump it. I've had times that I add air at depth, and then when ascending I try to vent and nothing comes out. I usually roll slightly with my right shoulder up, then roll hard the other way with...

Dealing with over-enthusiastic parents and spectators - The Parent's Perspective

Oh, now I understand. You meant that you act as the coaches/instructors advocate. :rofl3: I must have misinterpreted your original post. ;)

Backplate pads that can stow lift bags etc? How to use?

I would because my shoulder flexibility is pretty limited. Others have no trouble at all.

    Peak performance Buoyancy

I haven't taken the class, but every dive with my instructor is a peak performance buoyancy dive. I think the class can definitely help most people though. It's amazing how much easier diving is once you get your buoyancy correct.

Dealing with over-enthusiastic parents and spectators - The Parent's Perspective

Note the original post I was responding to was the "I act as a mediator/advocate to resolve the issue". That doesn't sound like "trying to understand the subject", but a parent interjecting in an argument to decide if the child or instructor is correct. That's where I say "shut the hell up and...

Dealing with over-enthusiastic parents and spectators - The Parent's Perspective

Fixed that for you :D. Teaching your kids that they can debate and disagree with an instructor/coach is a negative for them later in life. If the instructor/coach is doing something to put them at risk, you should remove them immediately. Otherwise, it's zip it and listen.

What basic safety procedures have you let slide?

I did this once, and it was caught by my buddy (who is an instructor). But I was pissed at myself. I also forgot to attach my inflator hose prior to walking down to the water, twice. I caught it when I did my second set of checks before entering the water, and again I was pissed at myself...

    Knife placement?

You are spot on. I spent a little more on my singles rig and regs. Probably around $2k or so, and that's with a Halcyon BP/W, Worthington HP100 steel tanks, and Zeagle Flathead/Z regs. So for doubles I need bands, a manifold, and a new wing. So that's about $800 more. A second set of tanks...

    Gear configuration: SPG vs. Console

I dive the Halcyon Infinity system with the back padding, shoulder padding, and integrated weight pouches removed. Essentially it's the Halcyon Eclipse with the cinch system added. I'm not a DIR diver but like the concept of keeping things simple, less is more. My setup is the brass/glass...

    confused by the gekko

:dontknow: Why would someone ever want to get educated on how to use their dive computer? Basically, the computer dives for you! :dontknow: So, what is the original poster going to do when he jumps in and it doesn't turn on because it was in the wrong mode? Or if he's at depth and presses...
