I do not agree with, "Dive and Let Dive."

If someone is harming the environment that I dive in, endangering our access to it, putting me in danger or just generally ruining my dive - then they are potentially not letting me dive, so I’ll address it. If they are doing anything else that I wouldn’t chose for myself but has no effect on...

DIR- GUE Why are non-GUE divers so interested in what GUE does?

Wait, you mean you can keep a Scubaboard account and NOT consider fundies at least once?

    Been busy diving

Ah, if you are not in a rush, then you should be fine to get a taxi, yes. My wife sends a WhatsApp message to +52 984 215 8846, “Taxi express”, to ask for taxi dispatches. They reply 3 out of 5 times at best, I’d say… not very consistent, but slightly better than waiting around if you are not...

    Been busy diving

Taxis are plentiful most of the day in the downtown area, but may be less so early in the morning (when it’s time to dive) or in heavy demand hours. Also, if you are close to 5th then pickup and traffic may be very annoying. Have you asked the instructor to pick you up with her truck in the...

    Mask leaks when turning head

I put the hood over the mask skirt. If you need to remove and replace the mask, it takes a second to get the hood edges back on top - you just pull up on the forehead, tuck two fingers in the “wrinkle” and run them around. I find my mask seals much better with the hood than without if I wear it...

    The Dilemma

I don’t think AI is justified for a dive vacation, the food tends to be ****** and you barely get to use the other perks. Being close to the dive op, for me, would be a lot more comfort than having to take a taxi - so it would be Casa Mexicana between those two. That said - take a look at other...

Question Cozumel snorkeling for group of non divers - recommendations?

Thanks everyone! We had an injured pinky toe and a bad belly in the group after all, so I got (rightfully) overruled and a nice beach + margaritas were prioritized. No jumping on boats. Thanks a bunch for the recommendations anyways! @BoundForElsewhere the shop you recommended did not have...

large air bubble on a deep dive

This is just some further speculation on my part, but it seems that dive computers (at least the oceanics that I’ve used) only use the wet sensor to turn on, since they start to“end” the dive when you are within a meter or so of the surface and the computer is still wet. If they detect that...

Question Cozumel snorkeling for group of non divers - recommendations?

Getting a rerun of the Hammerhead Show would be quite a treat 😂

Question Cozumel snorkeling for group of non divers - recommendations?

Thank you! I’ll ask them if they can arrange a snorkeling trip with no divers on board.

Question Cozumel snorkeling for group of non divers - recommendations?

Is there any decent snorkeling in Isla Mujeres? We’ve been discussing going there for the great beach, but I don’t remember any snorkeling being offered and don’t see much online. MUSA is not very interesting, unless there is a good reef nearby?

Question Cozumel snorkeling for group of non divers - recommendations?

Hi Cozumel regulars! Slightly off topic question. My brother and his wife are visiting. They are not divers but I want to show them the coral reef and hopefully some abundant sea life - give them a peep at what I like so much about the ocean. The sargassum has killed my two first options in...

    Is horizontal position really better?

I assume your were smacked twice for redundancy. Or is the tsk-tsk considered a sufficiently redundant corrective measure?

How to assemble DSMB / spool with line swivel?

Nice, thanks. I actually tried it the first way when I got the spool, but figured it looked too bulky and untidy to be “right”. I’ll give it another shot next time I’m in the ocean. I don’t think the way I’m doing it can slip easily (just took and jerked around and couldn’t get it to come off)...

How to assemble DSMB / spool with line swivel?

I haven’t figured out how to wrap it while keeping it tied up to the DSMB. Is there a standard way to that?

How to assemble DSMB / spool with line swivel?

I do a version of what happy-diver posted, just with the loop that is after the swivel. Thread normally through the tiny DSMB d ring, then pass a loop through one of the holes in the spool and grab it with the double ender: It is not Apeks, just a generic brand sold at a Cozumel dive shop...

Fears, Panic, Anxiety... What Does It Do To You?

I fear gettin stupid. Like others in the thread, I can get afraid at a specific situation but I don’t have any specific “always there” fears. Which means, it’s easy for me to get stupid. Example - first AOW “deep” dives. I am comfortable when diving and don’t really FEEL a difference between...

    New member and future diver

Honestly - most shops in the area that have been around for many years and have a decent online reputation are likely to serve you well. Just look for a few that meet those two requirements, email them all, and see which replies you like best. Dont worry about the language, most shops in Tulum...

Best Cozumel diving center for newbies

Going over in the ferry to dive with a Cozumel shop and back to Playa is doable but it makes for a LONG day. It is much better to at least stay one night or more - there’s plenty of diving in Coz for days and days (and weeks). If just want to do a dip to check it out but would rather spend all...

Discuss the use of scubapro screw stopper pin on 2nd stages

Are you talking about the front cover of the second stage? If so, at least on a C370 it is fairly easy to remove the pin with your finger. Just cram it into the side while depressing the front (like “purging”), and push the pin out from the inside.
