Condensation Problem - Canon S100 with Canon UW Housing

Here are a few tips: Don't use the silicate packets. I saw someone flood their Canon camera/housing because the packet had become wet, and the crystals leaked out, got on to the O-ring and caused a flood. Instead, use Moisture munchers: Moisture Muncher Capsules | Sealife Cameras They are...

4-week backpacking trip. Would appreciate feedback on my chosen diving locations!

Oh yeah, love the Canucks! Sedins, Edler, great Swedes! I must say I have lost a bit of interest in hockey now because I'm so obsessed with diving now. I will probably give up my hockey tickets after this year! I would much rather spend my money on diving! ;-)

4-week backpacking trip. Would appreciate feedback on my chosen diving locations!

Xzit, your plan is good. Well-researched, and a good pace for 4 weeks. See how things go when you get to Coron. Maybe you will like the shipwrecks a lot, but if the chance presents itself, do give Apo reef a try, it is pretty awesome!

BC diving ... at its best

Yup, best time is the fall. As the days get shorter, the algae declines, the filter feeders clean out the water, the viz gets better, and life in general reaches its max. I would say mid-Sept to mid October is the best. As you get into late October and into November, the viz continues to improve...

    Moalboal, The Philippines

Enjoyed your report, but your photos are suffering from lack of strobe power. Are you shooting manual or automatic? Do you have external strobes? You would get much better shots if you cut out the ambient light by going to ISO 100 and a faster shutter, and letting your strobe(s) light up your...

    Sola 800 won't charge!

I sent it in to Calif. and they fixed it. It works fine now. ;) Only hassle was i didn't get to use it on my Hawaii trip in December.

Can a video light double as a stills light?

Strobes give you way more light (in a very short burst) than what a constant light can do. So strobes allow you to shoot at base ISO, with smaller apertures and fast shutter speeds, giving you higher quality shots, and also eliminating ambient light if you want, giving you nice black...

    Sola 800 won't charge!

Tried that, also tried rinsing the contacts in vinegar, but still no luck...

    Sola 800 won't charge!

I picked up a Sola 800 photo light about 6 months go, and was loving it, until today, when I noticed it won't charge. The green light on the charger comes on, but nothing on the light to indicate charging. The light still works, it still has some charge left over from yesterday's dive, but that...

Vancouver/Vancouver Island recommendations for late November

Yes, if the weather is bad, you can always divert to a protected inlet, like Saanich inlet (i.e., Rockfish Divers, which you know) if you are in the Victoria area, or if you can, divert to Sechelt inlet, which is a different (shorter) ferry from Vancouver, and you could do Agamemnon (boat dive)...

Vancouver/Vancouver Island recommendations for late November

Rockfish Divers does Saanich Inlet, not Sechelt. The only charter boat currently operating in the Vancouver area is The Topline, run by Sea Dragon Charters. They do Howe Sound out of Horseshoe Bay. I have dove a lot with them, Jan and Kevin are great. It's a good option if you are restricted to...

Browning Pass Hideaway - a few photos, and video link

Yes, the first candy-striped shrimp pic was for me "the" shot of the whole week-end. It is still sharp if you crop it in close, so I can't tell which way I like better. So I think I'll print it up 16 x 20 and hang it on my wall! ;)

Browning Pass Hideaway - a few photos, and video link

Ok, as I just mentioned in another thread (http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/western-canada/436641-trip-report-browning-pass-hideaway.html), the diving here is absolutely fabulous. I judge my dives by the quality of the photos I get from them, and based on that, the diving here is world class. I...

Trip Report - Browning Pass Hideaway

Well, I've just come back form my 4th trip there in the past year, and 6th in total, so, hmmm, I guess I like it there, so I feel obliged to maybe come to John's defence here. I was there that day when tanks could not be filled fast enough, and do agree that John does tend to clam up when things...

How do I get to Anilao from Manila?

Several of the resorts have detailed instructions on how to get to Anilao. Portulano has perhaps the best directions for those without a vehicle, which you can find here: getting to Anilao Batangas Philippines Eagle Point resort has a very detailed map on their website, perhaps more geared to...

Aug.6, 2012 Senanus Island (Saanich Inlet) video

Nice video, thanks for sharing! It shows how fishing gear can destroy the fragile sponge reef. We as a community really need to increase awareness of this huge problem. Think of all the deep sea sponge that has been destroyed by commercial trawling! Yikes!

Need some help with Philippines travel

Yes, it is true that Anilao is generally more basic and rustic. But if you are a photographer, it is absolute macro-heaven! If you want something close to PG, that is definitely your ticket. I did a mini-review of Club Ocellaris, you can find it at the bottom of this thread...

Max Depth of Fisheye UWL domes... (in reality)

I think it is may be a bit pointless to take a camera that deep, unless you have a specific wreck you want to photograph. I find it a bit hard to concentrate on photography on deep dives due to the nitrogen narcosis. Plus, limited bottom time. For photography, much better to stay shallow!
