5 mm wetsuit for cold and warm water?

I wear a 5/4 Pinnacle wetsuit and I'm in Southern Okinawa. The water temp here is 20-22 degrees Celcius this time of year. The 5/4 is perfect...if I wear a hood. Much colder than that and I'd wish I had a 5 mil farmer john or a 7 mil wetsuit. Come summer, when the water is about 82 degrees...

Suunto dive computers and ScubaToys/Leisure Pro??

Give them a call. That's the easiest way to see what they have, or send them an email. They're good about getting back really quickly. They worked with me and I'm in Japan, so they'll definitely work with you.

    Mares Regulator??

I recently bought the limited edition reg and rather like it. It breathes a bit wet, but I'd rather have that than dry. Really light, too. And doesn't seem to scratch at all. Nice stuff, but definitely not worth the original price tag (I wouldn't pay more than $300 for it).

    Gull fins

Thanks for the info. I tend to...'lope' in the water and heard the Warp fins are good for big kicks. I just can't figure out why they cost double the Mew's. I'm about 187 cm tall with long legs. I'm not weak, but certainly not the strongest (or most talented and agile in the water). Has anyone...

    Gull fins

Any of you folks out there had the pleasure of using Gull fins? I need a new pair of fins and my local shop is selling the Gulls at 30% off. They have the Mew and the Warp. The warp is longer than the Mew and is apparently easier to kick. I asked if I could try them out before buying, but they...

    Kume jima and tanks.

Oh, thanks! BTW, I wanted to update my whining and complaining about Miyako. Turns out I've been deceived all along here. I talked to several shops about where to get tanks in Miyako and was repeatedly told that I can't rent them. I finally found someone that set things straight and I even got...

    Kume jima and tanks.

Hey all. I was just wondering what any of you know about Kume jima in Okinawa. I'm thinking of visiting a fellow JET there during Golden Week. My main concern is whether or not I'll be able to rent tanks there or if I'll have to use a blasted dive shop. I'm already pissed at the shops here in...

    Japanese residents: Dive insurance

Wait, are you that Dave, the Dave that sets us ALT's up with lessons and stuff? I'm from the States, Portland, Oregon. I got a whole Mares set-up a couple of months ago and would hate to replace it for any reason. I simply wouldn't be able to. Here in Miyako, the guides don't really take us on...

    Japanese residents: Dive insurance

Interesting to see this post. For those of us that dive only a couple of times a month recreationally, would it be worth it to still look into dive insurance. I just can't imagine having to buy all new gear again if it were to get stolen or something and the prices on gear here in Japan are...

Oceanic Geo vs. Atmos 2 vs. Mares Nemo

Another factor is whether or not you plan to wear the dive comp as a watch. I love the ergonomics of the Mares and the fact that it can be worn as a regular watch. If you need a straight up dive watch that you won't wear around and that tells you profile info, temp, depth, etc, etc, then the...

    Mares Limited Edition Morphos question?

If anyone sees this: check the sizing on the morphos if you can. I just sent mine back to Scubatoys because the things was too big in a medium...and I'm 6 foot 2. It wraps around, which is nice, but I guess I'm skinnier than the test models they used. I'm going to try and get a Vector 1000 instead.

    Prices in Japan

There is actually quite a bit of beach diving that can be done here in Miyako. The boat dives are nice, but I'd love to be able to rent a tank and just go for an afternoon. Since I work (like most of us) I can only go on the weekends, which can be inconvenient. Around Irabu Island there is quite...

    Prices in Japan

Jeez, wish I was on Okinawa honto, I'm in Miyako and I was just flat out told that I can't rent tanks. Means spending 8000 yen for two tanks and a boat ride if I want to dive. Apparently there are only two businesses here that rent out tanks--the dive shops (illegal and legal ones) have...

Maximum dives per day ? ?

Sheesh. I can't imagine doing 5 or 6 dives in a day. I'm in Okinawa where the water temp doesn't seem to get lower than 'comfortable' and three is my limit...and I'm only 24. Time to get into better shape...I'm hoping that more experience will also teach me to consume air more efficiently.

New to Diving - Please help!

I gotta post a message to this. I just got my Naui certification in Okinawa, Japan (a little Island, not the main island) and all my certification was in Japanese. I read the manual through in English a couple of times before the physical process. It helped so much because I knew exactly what...

    Mares Dragon BC

robway034. I don't know if you'll see this or not, but I was wondering what failed on your Metal Tech Ltd.? I just got one a couple of weeks ago and have yet to take it out for a test drive. It looks comfortable and feels comfortable, but doesn't actually seem all that robust to me. Thanks!

Mares Limited Edition Morphos Metal Tech BCD

I see. The cumberbund fits fine and I found the adjustment for the cumberbund. It's the air cell that is a bit loose when not fully inlated. I have it pulled as tight as it will go. Fully inflated it's snug. But when not fully inflated it flaps around. Admittedly, I haven't had it in the water...

Mares Limited Edition Morphos Metal Tech BCD

I too just got this BC in the mail from Scubatoys. (great service!) This thing is huge to me. I ordered a Medium since I fit other Mares BC's in an M size (6 ft 2, 180 lbs, 42 inch chest, 33 inch waist). But the aircell that wraps around seems on the big side. Is is just supposed to hang loose...
