How would you react to this ?

I think the whirlpool was horizontal. At least, that's what the poster of the video said on FB.

Help with set-up of BP/W and long hose

I am in touch with AWS but so far no connection through them. No response from Elliot Jessup. I will try Diver Dan's.

How would you react to this ?

Here's my stab at translating the Spanish: It looks to me like they are playing in the horizontal whirlpool.

Changing the battery on a Suunto Gekko

I saw the video, and the tool that he showed but didn't use is a spring-bar removal tool, one that looks like the Swiss-made Bergeon 6767-F model. You can find these on the Internet for about $25. Because of his experience and knowing exactly where to place the screwdriver blade and how to work...

Great report. Thanks for taking the time to write it up.

Help with set-up of BP/W and long hose

I have decided to go the BP/W and long hose approach. I would like to get help with adjusting the harness and routing the long hose and so forth. I am happy to pay for help from an instructor or diver who is expert in setting these things up. I contacted a local DIR instructor, but he's been...

Validity of bodily injury liability waivers

+1 I agree that "good chance" is not the best choice of words.

Validity of bodily injury liability waivers

I suggest that you misread the quoted text, which led you to misunderstand it. The text does not say that "they" (the scuba industry) will hurt people. It talks about a "good chance" of injury. If I say that there is a "good chance of being injured in an automobile accident" during your...

Validity of bodily injury liability waivers

The fact that a waiver is unenforceable does not mean it's irrelevant. One claim might be that the defendant is liable for failure to warn of a dangerous condition. (That's why you see all those little floor stands that say "Wet Floor"; they are a warning of a potentially dangerous condition...

Backpack-style gear bag for carrying gear from car to beach or boat

I'm looking for a backpack-style gear bag for carrying gear from car to beach or boat. I'm not looking to check it with an airline or carry it onboard a plane. If the bag folds down and packs flat for taking with me in a suitcase, great. But my #1 use will be local. The shoulder straps should...

Do you ever service your SPG?

If there is no pitting, what is to be gained? If you polish the bore of the SPG and the polishing is not perfectly concentric, might you not provide an escape route for the gas?

Validity of bodily injury liability waivers

Very good points. Given that negligence vs. gross negligence is ordinarily a question of fact, I suggest that this may come down to whose lawyer has picked the better expert witness. ---------- Post added May 20th, 2014 at 10:12 AM ---------- Parents can usually waive the rights of their...

Dye Markers? Emergency water? Emergency rations?

Check out this sticky. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/general-scuba-equipment-discussions/211950-best-signalling-equipment-searchers-point-view.html Some of the information won't be as much use in foreign countries, but lots of it is useful anywhere. One of the things I learned is that a...

Validity of bodily injury liability waivers

Although I agree with the bulk of what you have posted, in which state you have assets is irrelevant. If a judgment is entered in a court that has jurisdiction over you, the judgment can be enforced in every state (either by suing on the judgment or registering it, depending on the state...

    which antimalarial?

A Lycra dive skin is cheap, doesn't add buoyancy, and makes a wetsuit easier to don. If I had concern about sun exposure, that would be my first choice. Given that Egypt is generally pretty hot, evaporative cooling would probably not be much of a problem.

    Recommended Books

I have recently reread Beating the Bends by Brylske. I have to remove it from my recommendation. It's not that it's not a great book but the material is covered in Diving Science and The Complete Diver: The History, Science and Practice of Scuba Diving. If you read those two, there is no need...

    which antimalarial?

I suspect that there is no scientific data on the issue because there is no financial incentive for anyone to organize and pay for double-blind tests with a large sample group for the limited purpose of determining the effects of the drug at depth. So the custom seems to be to rely on a rule...
