Sounds like your dive buddy / husband did just what he was supposed to do. Also sounds like he loves you very much. Hey diving isnt for everyone and there is always the spa and shopping like my wife does.

I would think this is a good aproach, but remember be nice about what you want. Then if all else fails tell them to shove their computer where the sun dont shine and run to buy a new one before your trip. I know not ideal but what else can you do if they dont / cant fix it.

I would have to agree with ScubaSteve that in todays economy I dont know that someone "new" to the sport would want to shell out a couple of hundred dollars more for a course they can get from PADI / NAUI for less.
