How to figure out the best tank to buy?

Jim, Can you point me to any official bulletin/etc regarding TC regulations? I hate having to beg for a 2600 psi fill (here in Canada) while the shop tech searches diligently for the + stamp on my tanks. I fear that if I simply circled the the 184 with a black permanent marker I'd end up...

How to figure out the best tank to buy?

Are you sure the "+" stamp isn't just a DOT (US) issue that has managed to confuse Canadian dive shops? Every low pressure tank that I've seen has "184" in the TC section indicating that it can be filled to 184 bar (~2640 psi). In the DOT section you'll notice "2400", and this is where the "+"...

    Steel tank rentals in Vancouver?

(For the sake of anyone searching in the future) As it happens, the same shop --DiveTank in Burnaby--that'll be providing a few early Christmas gifts also has some steel tanks available for rent. Sean

    Steel tank rentals in Vancouver?

Title says it all. I'll survive with an al80, but I'd prefer something more negatively buoyant and sporting a DIN valve. Any suggestions? Sean

What fins with BARE Rock Boots?

Considering your boot size, here's another vote for the Turtles. XL Jets were too small, XXL too large. Sean

    SDM not detecting Mosquito

I've suffered through the same with my D3 at times. Threats of violence rarely worked...if not for the infrequent times that it does work I'd have backed over it by now. The device came pre-assembled (good quality), and appears to work less often when using a USB-serial adapter using Prolific...

    Looking for a buddy

Sounds like my wife has been relegated to support staff...thanks for preventing me from having to lug around two sets of gear! Now if I could only find some steel tanks to rent...

    Looking for a buddy

It'd be great if my wife could tag along in her 7mm...what kind of temperatures can we expect? I can remember her almost dying in 48F water for what it's worth. Sean

    Looking for a buddy

I've just learned that I'll be interviewing at UBC on November 28th for a hospital residency program (oral pathology/oral medicine) so I'm pumped at the prospect of diving off the west coast. My wife doesn't have a drysuit, and solo diving doesn't interest me. If anyone is available Sunday...

Big Eyes prescription lenses -- free to a good home

They finally arrived (although the box looks like it was submerged for a few weeks)! They'll be put to good use starting tomorrow...goodbye X-flood. Thanks again!! Sean

    Diving after lasik

I think your last line illustrates why there is still considerable fear regarding the variety of 'laser eye procedures'. I'd love to shed my glasses, too, but considering what I do I need visual acuity at all costs. I agree that diving sucks when you can't see well...prescription lenses were...

    ears still popping next day?

I experience the same phenomenon...sometimes it can be annoying. It's also pretty safe to say that he has TMJ (the anatomical joints, not the disorder that it is frequently called the same thing). Sean

Big Eyes prescription lenses -- free to a good home

Seawolf beat me to the goods...but according to my last eye exam I have the same prescription. My X-vision gives me fits with leaking...maybe a Big Eyes would fit better :crafty: Sean

    Trip Report: Tobermory Adventure Tours

Having spent the weekend diving on the Dawnlight in Tobermory, I wanted to post a few comments regarding my experience with Tobermory Adventure Tours. I was aboard for a two day liveaboard within the Fathom Five park (longer trips include destinations outside the region). Diving simply...

About dental braces and retainer wires

Depending on the stage of treatment, the 'wires' are usually either stainless steel or a nickel-titanium alloy. Either way you need not worry about SHC while diving unless your deco gas is 100% fluorine. Sean P

    "After-market" PC Interface for Suunto

I picked one up on Ebay for US$25 including shipping from Hong Kong. From the pictures it looked like a quality product (I haven't received it yet--ordered it on Sunday). I usually solder my own for simpler projects such as this, but I don't have as much time recently. Sean P

    Canada Day, eh?!

It's a bit early for burgers, but I think we found room for them in the car. Leisurely shore dives at Tobermory, Dyer's Bay, and Owen Sound are planned for the weekend. We considered the drive to Kingston, but being stuck on the 401 all day wouldn't be cool. Looks like the weather will...

This is really making me angry

I find it odd that I was lumped into either category (pro/anti) as I was merely responding to the commonly employed tactic of citing 'cultural differences' to rationalize decisions. I believe 'real' scientific evidence (as opposed to the vast quantity of pseudo-science) should be the concern...

This is really making me angry

What you are defending is far worse than arrogance--it is ignorance. For example, North America seems to have some unhealthy addiction to fast food. If there is indeed some culture remaining that doesn't integrate McDonald's into their diet on a frequent basis, can they not claim that theirs...
