Good point Ber Rabbit.... the zippers tend to let water in and out... and your right the Famer John is more versatile if you just use 1 of the 2 parts. The only thing I don't like about a Farmer John is the double thickness though the torso... from what I experianced, the double layer through my...
This is an interesting discussion... one I've thought about recently. We have a couple guys in our small dive club that go retrieve golf balls in water that is usually 12 feet or less..... I've never thought to log those dives because of what we are doing but come to think of it, I've searched...
I like the Akona 7mm... just stretchy enough to get into and out of, keeps me plenty warm in the 50's. And I'm a bit of a sissy when it comes to cold water.
Steve,
The only Merino lined one I've found is the Seal 3mm suit. It's all 3mm lined so that's in the torso, and extremities. Looks pretty good. We haven't started ordering them in yet, but I'd bet you could get one for around $210 to $220?
Looking to carry the Pinnacle line of Wet & Dry Suits for my online shop... I'm curious about all of your personal experiance with the Pinnacle brand. A few questions if you don't mind:
What is your overall opinion of the quality?
How well do they handle warranty issues?
Is the "Merino Wool"...
Based on the product descriptions, the polar would be my choice.... They seem to have all the same features with the exception of the thickness. Extreme is 8mm core/6mm extremities.... Polar is 7mm core/5mm extremities. I like less thickness if I can get away with it, so the polar is a clear...
A 5mm may be ok. My brother used a 5mm in Hawaii.... temps were about 79. I find that most women prefer the extra warmth.... not sure a 1mm would work for most girls in 80ish water.... just my opinion.
Welcome Travis,
You should take pride in saying "I read on Scuba Board that...." You are a well educated person, I can tell! Enjoy your diving... it's great to hear your wife is getting certified too, that will be great. My wife and I love to dive together.... so have fun! :)
Welcome the most expansive scuba forum out there. And congrats on not only finding the right place to search for answers but fixing them too! Ear problems are by far the most common (it seems :)) glad to hear you've overcome that.... have fun! :)
These are good things to remember.... I have friends that have approached me about diving, and they have this attitude of "what could happen?"..... that flat out scares me! I think it's important to remember that life insurance costs more when you disclose you are a diver for a reason. (got mine...
Not that you need one but..... another vote for waiting.... Wait to buy your gear. You may want what your LDS carries anyway. Who knows? Once you get certified and perhaps rent a few times you'll have a much better feel for what you like/dislike in scuba gear. Just one brief example. I like to...
These are all great suggestions for cleaning... I think the 1 thing that will make the most impact is how long you let them dry (very important) if you use soap, vinager, simplegreen, whatever... if you don't allow your booties or wetsuit to dry completely.... it's gonna reek!
Welcome Stewart.... I'm sure you will be overwhelmed with everyones different opinions on gear. If you ever need help please let me know... in an online world sometimes it's nice to call someone too :) Good luck with your selections, and it sounds like you have a great start in diving!
That's awesome Lisa..... I'm jealous! Cozumel sounds great. I love night diving too, it seems to bring out the weirdest looking creatures. Keep on diving! Have fun
