    What a NEWBIE!

Welcome to the board! and yes... it is funny how diving consumes your thoughts. I gues that is why this scuba board thing is so great! Have fun in Catalina, it's a beautiful place to dive. And after diving in Washington and the East Coast, I think you'll find Catalina to be almost tropical :)

How do I know if the suit fits?

I agree with Awap, getting a more expensive suit is the way to go.... they are just made with better materials for a better overall fit. Cheap suits are just cheap, and they will end up not working for you. You also mention seeing seams on your legs and arms.... that is bad sign, it's like the...

    New to Board, Wetsuit advice

ScubaHel, You mention feeling more comfortable in a 3mm. Comfort is very important... you don't want to be worring about your suit while you are diving, so I'd stick with what makes you comfortable. The Water Temps in Hawaii are not too cold so a 3mm will likely be fine, however if you get...

    Mask de-fogger

Has anyone every used Fog Not? I just got a test sample of this, but haven't tried it yet. Just wondering if anyone has heard of it, and used it before?

    whites underwear question

I'd stick to what the tag says. Unless you are willing to replace it.. if the dryer kills it.

    New divers and computers

No, I'm not in favor of throwing them out. I actually enjoyed that part of the PADI Training. I feel knowing your limits before the dive is crucial to safe diving. But I must be honest.... I do tend to rely too much on just the computer. I need to be better about that.

    .5MM Wetsuit Question

Ricky, Fellow Surfer here, you are right, there isn't any surf company that makes a skin suit, but I think you will find the .5mm skins made by any diving company pretty comparable to a full rash guard. Durable enough to take a beating with the surfwax. Another thought would be to get a...

Wetsuit - FJ and Jacket vs. Full Suit and Hooded Vest

Another vote here for the full suit and hooded vest. Perfect for cold water.

    Layering order???

I agree with Spectrum, you want good core insulation, and with the full suit covering and sealing off the water flushing you will be much more warm. As for getting to hot? and taking off the shorty.... come on if heat were the real issue we wouldn't be discussing layering. And I doubt you'd be...

    one-piece vs 2-piece

Rental suits are typically quite worn out, with leaking seams, making even a 5mm feel like a skin suit. I have dove with a farmer John, it was warm but bulky. If you get frustrated easy with getting you suit on and off, go for a 1 piece full suit. If you were to get a 7mm full suit (new) I think...

    Brands brands

I like Bare wetsuits, they seem to be built sturdy. However, I am partial to Ripcurl. It's really made for surfing so you know it will be well put together, tuff and long lasting. I agree that you can wear out a suit in a few diving seasons.... but that is true only if you don't take care of it...

    Was your suit inexpensive?

How to Add Warmth to my 3/2 Wetsuit

I agree with the hooded vest idea, most of the heat you loose comes out your head. However, I also agree that getting a good 7mm suit will make you more comfortable all around. A brand new one isn't that bad, check ours out when you get a chance.

    how much weight

No way to tell without trying it first like Ed mentioned. However I can tell you I'm 5'10" 165lbs. I needed 25lbs of weight with a 7mm Farmer john. My Wife, who is 5'2" at 150lbs needed 29lbs. Hope that gives you an idea.
