    Underwater Navigation Device

If you've got something that gets high accuracy GPS coordinates underwater you're going down the wrong road. The underwater construction, oil and gas, commercial diving, public safety, and military dive communities would have dozens of uses for such a thing and would have wheel barrels full of...

    Weird scuba diving dreams

I had a scuba dream once..... I went on a work dive and could see. Anyway it was just a dream.

Oxycheq wing with Dive Rite Transpac for single tank

I have the trans-pac and travel wing and dive it for pretty much all single tank warm water diving. It dumps fast feet first or head first. I use it with about 10 lbs or less in dive rite pockets and usually sling a 19 CF pony on the left side and side mount a canister light on the right D...

Back from Channel Islands trip, minor gear damage, advice?

Only moments ago my wife ridiculed me for spending too much time on ScubaBoard. Then I saw a thread about a ripped set of gloves complete with pictures and I felt better. Your time has value. Buy new gloves.

    About diving with strangers

"The Gift of Fear" was indeed an excellent book. I used to hear a steel prison door slam behind me twice a day. Once a day it was a good thing. If its one thing I took away from that job its that God gave the hairs on the back of your neck the ability to stand up for a reason. That...

    Deep, Deeper, Freakin' Deep!

Navy Experimental Diving Unit These guys basically experiment on people. They press guys to 2000 fsw or more. The pool under that chamber is pressed as well so they do dives in it at that pressure.

Now PADI gets involved in agency bashing

Telling though that your apparent solution to another person's offensive speech is to wish brain injury on them and a mental defect on their unborn children. I learned long ago that if I choose to be offended by every statement I probably should find offensive I'd be pretty lonely in my...

You do not have enough redundancy in your regs.

Going on a dive trip, what spares do you bring along?

Like most people are saying.... Last year I dove in Cabo Pulmo, Mexico. They do not run power lines to that town. A bat landed on me one night in the bungalo, which was the nicest place in town. I brought a good 15 lbs of spare parts in a medium size pelican case. Last week I dove in Key...

Best Key Largo Dive ops for 1st timers

Another vote for Brent at Bluewater. I dove with him last week on the Grove. Six pack boat. He was very accomidating (took delivery of my gear fed ex b/c I was on kind of a complicated tour of the country for work) and there was a mix of skills on the boat that he worked well with. I will...

Do I need a dive light?

Buy a simple, small, bulletproof LED light now. I have an older Princeton Tec LED twist on/off style light. I carry it on every recreational dive I go on, the only light for daytime non-penetrative dives, and as a backup at night or on any wreck or low viz dive. If you stay with warm water...

    Surface Supplied Air?

Not sure, but my team is good about complying with actual applicable laws and regs (the parent agency has a large in house legal unit) and we seldom use BCs on SSA. We add some type of bouyancy device beyond the dry suit only on deeper dives.

    Maps of wrecks in Truk

I remember all that stuff. Could not name them off without looking at the captions or going back to my log though. I have to get back there in a few years.

    Maps of wrecks in Truk

The San Fran is a pristine wreck, and pretty deep. I maxed out at 182 fsw in the forward hold. I did about 12 minutes in the hold and on deck at 165 fsw on 25% nitrox. Minor deco. Forward hold holds dozens of huge bombs, and there are small Japanese tanks on the deck at 165 fsw. If you...

    Dive ops on Molokai?

Anything active now? I know Bill Kapuni apparently used to have a one boat operation, but I can't find anything recent on the internet or this board. I am vacationing with my family in September, 3 of us are divers, we've already done the Big Island and Kauai, we're looking for the Maui...

    Secondary reg bungee'd around neck?

I don't intentionally set up my dive gear in a manner that wears it out faster than need be, but so long as you and your dive team members conduct your predive and all aspects of your dive with the utmost perfection I'm sure you'll be fine. In any case you are still bypassing in intentional...

    Secondary reg bungee'd around neck?

    (a) There is a possibility of it snagging. Just like there was a possibility of the Titanic sinking. (b) You've deleted an intentionally engineered weak point. Something will break sooner or later, and probably something you don't want to break. I'm thinking likely the bungee material will...

    Surface Supplied Air?

SSA air takes a very long time to set up. It is inappropriate for rescue work because of this. It is also very expensive and requires training. That being said, there seem to be some misconceptions about it. It is actually in its element in shallow dives. Because it takes a long time...

    Secondary reg bungee'd around neck?

I really can't see the bungee on my neck choking me. It would have to catch on something half an inch from my neck. All my dives on AGA and surface supply are done with a short hose 2d stage around my neck (for me, as part of a true multiple redundant system, these are solo dives), normally on...

    BC Knives

The blades on mine are not rusting. The pin/rivet holding the two halves together is. I will be drilling it out and replacing it with SS hardware, likely a small bolt and nylock nut.
