    Diving Bali?

We were accosted by a terribly irritating tout in Lovina called "Doky" who wouldn't shut up about his "dive company" or the discounts on rooms he'd give if we dove with him. First he said he was only going out tomorrow so I'd have to sign up immediately, but when I told him I wasn't planning to...

    Diving Bali?

We're in Bali for another week and I'd love to get some scuba in. I've heard the area is renowned for its diving, but am unsure as to where is good. My girlfriend really wants to spend the rest of our trip in Lovina (we're in Ubud right now) and I'm hoping it's good there. Can anyone recommend...

    Koh Phi Phi?

Did two excursions with Pricess Divers and enjoyed every minute. Marcus, the brawny Cagarian that runs the operation was very inviting and friendly, and his staff all helpful, knowledgeable, and fun to dive with. I was very disappointed by quite a few other dive shops on PP, as they didn't seem...

    Poor Knights: accessibility?

I'm going to be in Auckland between the 12th and 15th of August and would really like to get a dive in at Poor Knights. The only day I'll be able to do this is the 14th (on which I'm totally free)... Is it feasible to do if staying in Auckland? Also, how much can I expect to pay for a cheap...

    Sumatra and Borneo accessibility?

Cheers, guys. We just booked a flight on Malaysia airlines from Phuket to Medan via Kuala Lumpur. Spending 6 days there (mostly in Bukit Lawang) then flying down to Bali for 2 weeks of scuba, sun, and komodo dragons. :D A big thanks to everyone here that made it clear a trip into Sumatra is...

    Sumatra and Borneo accessibility?

Sounds great, guys. Is it possible to fly to Medan from Phuket? We're looking to do either that or fly from Kuala Lumpur (Phuket would naturally be easier since we'd be able to avoid visas for Malaysia), Spend the night there, up first thing in the morning and out to see the Orangs, spend a...

    Sumatra and Borneo accessibility?

Usually I'd totally agree, it's much better to do a small area well than a large one improperly, but the prospect of seeing wild Orang'utans in the same trip as komodo dragons and volcanoes (my girlfriend's a geology major) is just too alluring. I'm not sure when I'll be back and would never...

    Sumatra and Borneo accessibility?

Hmmm... That sounds fairly exhausting. Is there ANY way we could work either Burkit Lawang (sp) or the place in Borneo where there are Orang'utans into our trip to Bali, etc?? I'd hate to travel to Indonesia and only see the touristy areas. What about if, when in Peninsular Thailand, we head...

    Sumatra and Borneo accessibility?

My girlfriend and I are heading to Southeast Asia for 2 months beginning this summer and I'm hoping to get some scuba in. I know there are a lot of people familiar with Indonesia on this board, and what would be great is some advice about how accessible either Borneo or Sumatra are to Western...

    Question about Australia

Andrew, I'm Canadian, currently on exchange in NZ. Big cheers for the info on the reef stuff. Any more you can provide would be killer, though the first two sound more within my price range than anything else. As for what else I'd like to do, mostly see wild Australia. I know most people go...

    Question about Australia

I'll be in Australia this June-July probably for about 4 weeks which is hardly enough time to see the country. That being the case, I've got to limit what I do to a few things which I'd like to do properly, rather than blowing through them. One of them is of course diving the Great Barrier Reef...

    nutrition: kj to calories?

I'm currently in NZ for a year and am having trouble calculating my caloric intake each day since all their products are labelled in kj. I figure that means kilojoules, but the math doesn't add up when I put the numbers into online calculators. Example: An energy drink on my desk right now...

    PADI AOW: A total ripoff?

How am I responsible for not learning more about the flora and fauna of our local ecosystems through my course if the information was never provided?

    PADI AOW: A total ripoff?

I've just completed my PADI AOW and all I can say is I feel terribly ripped off. Why? I'll explain. For AOW 5 criteria need to be met, different specialties with "Navigation" and "Deep" as required, possibly "Night" as well. Anyway, I got my drysuit specialty done with my OW, did a night-dive...

So what do you do with your keys?

I wear a drysuit, so I keep keys in my pockets. Here's a question though: one time I forgot to take my cell-phone out and dove with it. Naturally it was fine, but would I have been able to receive a call underwater? Would have been strange hearing the muffled sound of my ring-tone going off at...

    AOW: suggestions

I'm thinking of getting my AOW next week, as I'm going away on exchange and want to do a lot of diving abroad. I've so far logged about 15 dives and am comfortable underwater. I'm not a huge fan of depths and am much happier at around 30-40 feet than 60 and below, but I'm level-headed enough not...

What's between warm and cold water diving?

Har har. I guess I should have said "puns and wise-cracks aside." ;)

Uh oh another one jumps ship

Very well said. Your opinion, not your deduction from experimentation. Science wins. Sorry. ;)

What's between warm and cold water diving?

Puns aside, what's the middle-ground between these often-treated-as-black-and-white environments, and what are some examples? Is there a region where you can have both coral and visibility with kelp-forests and lots of biodiversity?
