Bikini Atoll, deep air for everyone

donacheson, I don't mean to flame, but how could you say a dive like that is safe? In my head, that's ridiculous. I could see taking students on a guided deco (possibly), but --really-- deep air and then deco. That's incredibly dangerous. Now I am not trained in any sort of deco, deep air...

    dive insurance input please

Go with DAN. Even if you don't ever need to use it (which we hope) at least you know you are helping other divers and supporting the cause. I have it and love the benefits that go with it. Recently they sent me a key chain tag, so that if you lose your keys DAN will send them back to you...

If you were to have a new place to dive and frequent often..

I'd be there. especially if they have a season pass. and its got cool stuff in there. and its deep enough to make sense. and if i could do some training in there. and if there is a beach. and while i am at it, hot diver chicks =-) brandon

Just when you thought you had a new wreck to dive:

You'd think they planned that :mean: those sneaky boat captains. On the other hand, while the offshore tugs are usually self-righting, I wouldn't expect river tugs to be (you know, cheaper). brandon

    do you recruit much?

I try to recruit. However, most people I know would rather not dive. I am 18; my friends would rather spend their money on drugs. :( It's sad, I know. brandon

    How Deep do you Dive?

How deep do I like to dive? Well, I like to dive to 50 (just where snorkling becomes useless, for me anyway) that way I can stay down basically forever when on 36% or 40%, be warm, and safe. However in the real world, I may have to dive down to 75 or 120 feet to see what I am after. I...

The All Inclusive SCUBA Tattoo Thread

That's funny. I just took the first training day of rescue diver and one of the instructors had a dive flag on his calf. brandon

ASL (American Sign Language) for diver communication

I learned finger spelling way back in the day (I think it was from a boy scout book...). My brother can sort of do it, but he is not "fluent," as it were. it is also rather hard to do when wearing gloves or see when vis is low. it's really easy to learn, it only takes maybe an hour to...

    Turtle kick

in my experience, a turtle kick is where you keep your knees more or less stiff and kick with your ankles, using your fins like in a frog kick. I like to use it when I am upside-down looking in crevasses because it allows me to move rather precisely in a full range. brandon

    Slipped tank

This just happened to me on my last dive...well not me, personally. We were down at 100' just below the lip of the wall, and a vaction diver, aparently lost his tank, which, being full, decided to sink, almost pulling his reg out of his mouth. The instructor wasn't looking (don't ask) so I had...

    small doubles?

I really don't like long, big single tanks. They always go too far down my legs and stick out too far back. So, I have been thinking about manifolding a set up smaller tanks, maybe 45s or 66s. does anyone have any experience with this? will i be saving enough space to be worth anything? I'd...

    bhullman tables

aren't buhlman tables just like the navy (padi, ymca, naui, etc)? They are not a problem for me. It the bsac tables that are just so bizarre to me. even the dciem tables are easy compared to them. btw if anyone is looking for help with tables I would reccommend John Lippman's deeper into...

Does your Local Dive shop have Nitrox?

I voted yes. the tdi/naui technical shop (which I prefer cuz the padi shop can't get their act together) will do whatever you want. whilst the padi shop where I do my padi ( :( ) training, does not have trox. I just love it when they send the customers to the tech shop. and besides this is...

It's a Bad Day of Diving When...

There is never a bad day of diving, ...unless it's done in a chamber, ...and you didn't plan for it, ...and you were unconscious for most of it.

    Programes

The suunto dive manager does it very well. It shows percentage of surfacing m-value. It is however very difficult to enter in a profile if you haven't done it on your dive computer. It is also not very flexible. You can download it from the suunto website for free. brandon

Build It and They Will Come?

The only problem is that in order to have a moonpool at depth, the whole hotel would have to be pressurized. You couldn't have immediate access to the surface, and you'd have to decompress when you left. But that brings up a new idea-- Saturation Vaction Think about it! Almost...
