    Freedive weighting?

Not only being positive at the surface, but also it's wise to be positive in the last 5-10 feet. Personally, I tune the amount of weights to match my buoyancy when I'm not using any wetsuit in salt water. This is also being neutral (or close to it) at 30ft for my case. Every body type and...

    underwater and breathing fears

"exhaling in the last few feet" is not safe. Let's not promote this practice in anyway. Especially beginners might misinterpret your posting and adopt this exhaling practice. As you return to the surface, the blood shift returns back to normal, doesn't it? Can you please state which resource...

    Rescue Breath

Physiological effects of peeing in your wetsuit

I pee about 2 times every dive. Water is 60-70F at the surface and around 52F at 100ft. I think holding your pee before getting in the water and then peeing right at the beginning of the dive before seawater gets in the wetsuit is the best. Then since there's already some fluid in your...

    snorkel and DIR

I dive with single tank BPW. With a single tank, I find that face down is as efficient as on your back, but this is probably a personal preference... For situations where you need to be looking into the water (looking for a line-up, avoiding kelp/jellyfish/fishnet/humans, etc.) I prefer face...

Thanks everybody. I'm getting a thigh pocket very soon.

    snorkel and DIR

It won't interfere with long hose deployment since it's under my hog belt during the dive. Under the belt, it's no more entanglement hazard than my dive knife which is next to it on the hog harness belt. It's basically a fully DIR-compliant setup, except the snorkel tucked under the belt. For...

    snorkel and DIR

What's the DIR stance on using (or why not using) snorkel? Specific to recreational open water with no overhead environment... I haven't yet taken any DIR classes yet, so I don't know the DIR answer to this. But so far my personal solution to the snorkel problem has been using a small...

How do freedivers clear their ears so quick when they rocket down on sleds

There are many equalization techniques. You can search "deeperblue" forums for useful techniques. You can PM me if you want I think I have a doc somewhere that explains about 6-7 different techniques. Pain and/or ear squeeze is not normal and may lead to serious ear problems if you insist. If...

Do split fins have less umph than blades?

My apologies. If I did know about that incident, then I wouldn't make jokes about cutting conventional fins to turn them into split fins.

    BP/W Whats so special?

As a beginner diver, I am going through the BCD->BP/W transition these days. Just sold my old BCD 2 days ago and I now have about 7-8 dives with my new BP/W. Note that my old BCD was a very good one. It was a back inflated high quality BCD. However, it took me more than 6-8 dives to get the...

Do split fins have less umph than blades?

During a dive, you can always switch to split fins in an emergency by cutting conventional fins using diver's knife if you need more speed/efficiency. :-P

Single tank setup SPG Hose length

At today's dive, I put a white tape at the 24 inch mark on my 32 inch hose. Looks like this is going to work. And unclipping the SPG and bringing it up to me was not a problem at all. This keeps my balance.... I got used to doing this after 4-5 times... :-) Thanks for the answers and help...

    small weight trim pockets

XS scuba looks very cool and affordable, but I used XS scuba weight belt before, and I accidentally dropped 1-2lbs soft weights when using these. These pockets have some unnecessarily large gaps which is a show stopper for me. I think it's even possible to drop a 2lbs soft weight. I'll be...

    small weight trim pockets

I'm looking for cheap solution for small weight pockets (max 5lbs each) that attach to a 2 inch webbing. I need 4 of these: 2 for my weight belt and 2 for my tank belt. Must hold a soft 1 lbs bag securely. Any recommendations?

Single tank setup SPG Hose length

I'm trying to modify my Tusa SCA-230 console which is currently on a 32inch HP hose. I'll cut out the rubber boot of the gauges and leave the bare SPG attached to a 24'inch HP hose. Then I'll move the depth gauge to my wrist using a wrist mount. I talked to my LDS and they said 24'inch might...

Wrist Mount for Tusa Console Depth Gauge

I'm trying to get rid of the bulky boot of the console and leave the bare SPG attached to the HP hose and move the depth gauge to my wrist. The console is a Tusa SCA230. I don't see any wrist mounts that can fit this gauge. Do you know if any manufacturer which offers a wrist mount that can...

Just ordered my DSS single tank BP/W rig!

You'll probably end up using 4-6lbs on your weight belt. Regarding tank belt or weight belt, I think having ditchable weights is a good idea as others suggested.

    Happy Customer

Spent about 2-3 hrs setting up the rig. DSS medium SS BP, LCD30 wing... (I'm 178lbs, 7mm exposure suit, HP100 steel, 6 lbs weight belt) Jumped in the water next day. Felt like freediving, the rig is so streamlined. I was smiling while doing dolphin kicks and gliding through the water... :D...
