I have a few dives now on my Hollis DG03, and think it's a decent rec diving computer.
-Multiple gases: air nitrox and O2
-user changeable non rechargeable battery that lasts
-large backface with good illumination
-air integrated: I don't use it this way, but I know that's a $$$ feature...
I disagree. I think peoples attrition has more to do with access to the hobby than getting bored of the activity. I did a total of ZERO diving when life pulled me away from the ocean. Now that I am moving back I am starting to dive again. :)
If someone got into an activity that required the...
Hey guys I am looking to buy a new dive primary light to use for night diving/bug hunting and and leaning between the 3x XM-L flash lights like the one in the OP or this single XHP70. Let me know what you guys think...
I dive with my SS Bpw and 25# wing in Cali, and wouldn't change a thing if I was gonna travel. The plate is pretty small, super thin, and we are only taking a 2-3 POUND penalty in the weight department. I save enough luggage weight elsewhere that I can carry the 2 extra pounds. It's really no...
@TMHeimer i am 6'1" and ~185, so pretty close in body comp to you. I was diving an older aqua lung solafx 8/7 and switching to a brand new suit had to add 4 pounds almost too the weight belt. With a Steel BP/W and AL80 I'm looking right at 20 pounds on the weight belt. I think the big difference...
Hey Diver's,
Im moving back to southern California just in time to make a decent part of the lobster season. I have never collected lobster before and decided to seek some wisdom from the board. What kinda light do you haul beneath?
Also in another line of work I used lights a lot and there...
@Mylee - the main attraction to SoCal diving is the kelp forest. If you haven't dove kelp it's quite an experience. I just put together a video diving casino point, but I'm new to making videos and FB and YouTube bounced it back cause of the music. If anyone wants to send me their email I can...
Mylee- don't worry about the cold, just get the right wetsuit. I froze A lot doing OW and AOW while I was in a rental 7mm. I have even come out of the water almost shivering on a few dives. Getting my aqualung solafx semi-dry is the best piece of gear I have picked up yet. I am a big believer in...
Hey guys I compiled this spread sheet after wondering if a 25lb wing would be enough for my perceived diving scenarios I could encounter through traveling or diving in socal. Let me know if any of my math is glaring wrong, or if I should choose a larger wing than a 25lb DGX package.
"for local your right on the edge"
is there another source you can point me too for figuring out how much lift I need? I (mis)read recently that if properly weighted you shouldn't need much more lift than your tank is negative. IE if I am diving a HP100 at -9 pounds a 25lb wing should suffice...
Im also considering this BP/W and have a question for the forum:
Is the 25b wing sufficient for my needs?
Travel: 3mm, AL80
Local: 7mm, AL80-HP100, salt and fresh water
UPDATE:
Hey just coming back to update the forum on my gear choices. I have a handful more dives since the last time posting and finally pulled the trigger on some regs. I ended up buying Hollis DC3/212 set, that I found at $150, which I think is a good bang per buck. (2 sets me & wife).
I...
While a padded harness sounds like a good idea for long walks with shore dives (I was SMOKED at the end of my last shore dive from walking tanks up and down stairs), the padding requires extra weight to sink it. So to gain a little bit of padding: you would have to add weight. The most basic...
Hey Guys and Gals,
I will need help from both the genders on this one.
Dive profile: Looking to do a few dives in socal along with my local lake in the winter time (lake pleasant, AZ). The lake gets down too 55*, and expecting the waters in socal to be 60-65*. Max depth wouldn't be very deep...
The main trick is being efficient on the boat. Like others said you can over heat pretty quickly while its 105 and you are still wearing a wetsuit. In september the water was in the 70's until I hit the thermocline around 40'.
Inland water divers are out of goodyear, and great people. Pete has...
Thanks for all the replies. I feel like a swivel and correct hose will probably help the most, but will also get the comfobite. How do you guys suggest I set up my hoses for the least amount of tension on the reg? I haven't decided how long or short I want each one. Also it was good to learn...
Hey guys,
I have a bad case of Bruxism: which means on a regular day I get pretty sore and have lots of pain in my jaw. I noticed on my last few dives, I start fighting jaw fatigue pretty quickly. Are there any solutions to help with jaw fatigue? I was using rental gear and don't remember the...
