dove jocassee for the first time today

Thanks for the report; I've been wondering about the water temps. Guess I'll head over to Jocassee next week-end, if the weather is nice.

    question about diving jocasse

Hi, Leah! I was planning on diving on the 15th at Jocassee, but with the weather turning so cold this week-end, I may wait another week or so. Lance and Jane are presently on a 2-week dive trip to Australia. She got certified late last summer in preparation for the trip. He is going to...

    question about diving jocasse

This is from my dive log for dives made on April 1 last year at Jocassee: "Surface water temp was 61 degrees, and 53 degrees at 43 ft." It will be good to get back out there!

    question about diving jocasse

Last year, I got this urge to go diving in the middle of March. We'd had some real warm weather and I suppose it triggered some instinct to go diving. Anyway, I did ONE DIVE from the diver's ramp at Lake Jocassee. I nearly froze in my 7/5 with hood and gloves. I believe the water temp at 30...

Shore Diving at Caribe Blu ?

I was at the Caribe Blu for 2 weeks in January, and did my diving with Blue Angel. I rotated my days of boat diving and shore diving, and never had to pay anyone for tanks or weights when shore diving. Victor and the other folks at the shop were great, and I can't wait to go back. If you...

    Roatan vs Utila again again

I agree with Chotzinger. I'm going in June, and chose Roatan over Utila mainly because of travel considerations. There is something to be said for boarding a plane in Houston and landing in Roatan, instead of landing in San Pedro Sula and having to make your way to Utila via puddle jumpers, or...

    Utila - short trip report

Thanks for posting. I'm planning on going to Utila in June and I had been looking at that same ATL - SAP Delta flight, and gave up on it after reading your post.

    Shore diving from Caribe Blu?

Concerning the question about the beach, there is a man-made area of sand on the grounds of the hotel (between the hotel and the swimming pool), but it is mostly rocks in front of the hotel. However, there is a small public beach about just south of the hotel (a two minute walk?).

    Shore diving from Caribe Blu?

We were at the Caribe Blu from Jan. 5 - 19th. When they said unlimited free shore diving, I took them at their word. I made 39 shore dives (and 10 boat dives) while we were there. The reef that is just south of the hotel appears to have been pretty much demolished by the 2005 hurricane, but...

What to take to Cozumel? And other questions.

When I stayed at the Villablanca in October 06, my (deluxe) room did not have a safe or lock-box of any kind.

What to take to Cozumel? And other questions.

When I was at the Villablanca Hotel last October, all the electrical outlets in my room accepted only 2 prong plugs. If you stay there, you'll probably need a non-polarized (both blades the same width) 2-prong adaptor. They are difficult to find in the US, but can be purchased locally at the...

    Villa Blanca?? Someplace Nice

I stayed at the Villablanca in October. The place is "okay", and very quiet. However, hot water was in very short supply the last 2 days I was there. The staff seemed to have a "hands off" policy, and didn't seem to like complaints and/or questions too much. I'm presently in Cozumel, and...

    Coz Electric Outlet Question

Some of the older hotels still have 2-prong plugs, and the newer hotels have 3-prong plugs. When you book your hotel, just ask. If you need to get a 2-prong adapter, you'll most likely need to get a non-polarized model (both prongs the same width). These can be hard to find in the US, but...

    Seasick in Cozumel?

I spent a week diving in Coz last month, and a light chop was about as bad as it got concerning the water. Previously, I could get seasick by just watching a boat go up and down on waves; I didn't even have to be on it (and I'm not exaggerating). Someone suggested Bonine (available at...

    Recharging Batteries in Cozumel

I usually use an outlet strip and plug the chargers for my I-Pod and AA camera/strobe batteries into the strip. However, the outlet strip has a 3-prong plug, and the wall receptacle in my hotel room in Cozumel could accommodate only a 2-prong plug. Therefore, I had to dispense with use of the...

    Coz...Good snorkeling spot

I got back from Coz on Oct. 14. I walked to town everyday from the Villablanca Hotel (about 2.5 miles south of the ferry pier), and saw folks snorkeling from the beach just about everyday. Not sure what they were looking at, but the area where they were snorkeling is about a 1/4 mile north of...
