    Hello from newbie

Welcome to the Scubaboard. You'll find lots of info and probably some buddys here. Keep an eye on the "Great Lakes Wrecking Crew" section. Lot of difference diving cold water, but after you get used to it (and have the right gear=drysuit) you'll love it. Welcome. steve

    Hello from Florida

Hi, welcome to the Scubaboard. You'll find lots of info here. I have had good luck with the HMS Minnow in Key Largo. 6-pack boat with more freedom than many of the cattleboats. Holiday Inn is a good place to stay. If you dive with the Minnow, Jeff (the owner) will get you a discount at the...

    ATX50 Assembly

Just screw them in hand tight, take a wrench and tighten a LITTLE BIT more. They all have an O-ring, so they don't have to be very tight at all. A little "food-grade silicone" (spelling) on the oring is ok, but that's all you need. No thread tape or anything like that. GREAT REG

    Dacor

While the pros and cons of Dacor gear have been discussed before, I don't mind reviewing my opinion. I have owned quite a bit of dacor gear including a bc and reg. I have had real good luck with all the stuff I've owned; it performed and held up well. However, I will never buy a piece of...

    Retired my BC

I have the "Nautica" with weight system. It's only about five years old. You're right, it's not wore out; I just wanted the BP/W.

    Retired my BC

I made a couple of cold water dives today and retired my old Dacor BC after 384 dives. Though I won't buy from Dacor anymore, it was sure a good one. Picked up my new backplate and Venture wing; can't wait to get this baby wet. Pat me on the back, I even bought it from a dealer.

Doubles and deco friendly boats in NC?

The "Diver Down" out of Morehead City might be a possibility. I did a trip with them last summer and we had a couple of divers diving doubles. While deco was not mentioned, it was stated that if you were planning on doing extended "safety stops" you should be one of the first divers in the...

    EMT scissors with thick gloves?

I use them with 5mm gloves without any problems, however I have small hands. A person with large paws might have problems. I prefer the EMT shears over a knife in most situations.

Why do you keep a logbook?

I keep it mainly for personal reasons; having the log with a few notes, helps to refresh memories about different things that make each dive special. I also keep it for proof of experience if I want to sign up for an advanced trip, however, I have never been asked to show it.

Love Your Job? Tell Me About It!

Yeah, I love my job.... 27 years in a tire factory, humping it on the night shift, 2 1/2 years short of retirement, and as of 12/19 they are closing up shop while saying, "don't let the door hit you in the a__ on the way out", and trying to screw us out of our benefits at the same time. Yeah, I...

Married but single Diver what to do?

Take her on a group trip to Cozumel. Most the operators that run the big boats and cater to groups will let non-divers ride the boat for free. My wife was just like yours: no interest in diving. After one trip as a non-diver, seeing that other ladies diving, and snorkeling with me off the...

New Diver - Midwest, USA - Illinois

No, I don't have any interest in doing Bonne Terre due to the cost/dive and the way the operation is run. I will be diving at Mermet during Dec, but due to work and Christmas, 12/11 is the only POSSIBLE weekend day that I could make it. I do most of my diving during the week. Keep me in...

New Diver - Midwest, USA - Illinois

Hi recman, Welcome to the board; you'll find plenty of info and probably some buddies here. I am in W. KY and dive at Mermet all the time. I would be glad to get together with you sometime. I dive year-round (except maybe Jan. when Mermet is closed). Be sure to check the Midwest Muck...

    How Cold Do You Go

Depends on whether you have a drysuit or not, and if the water temp is the same top to bottom. I've made plenty of wetsuit dives to the bottom of the quarry (42*) and stayed down there for a few minutes (no, not a bounce) before ascending a bit to find some warmer water. In the winter when...

    Deep Sea Detectives.....

Is it just me, or is this show getting worse all the time?? I know it's not targeting only divers, but they spend so much time solving mysteries, they don't have time to get in the water!!

It doesn't work for me either; I have used that link in the past, but it's been quite a while. Must be down or moved or gone.
