    Have you heard of this?

That doesn't make sense unless by "diver" you mean "student". If a PADI diver burns, misplaces or gives away his book does his certification expire?

    Blue grotto devils den?

American Pro is a great shop, but neither of the locations you are looking at need to be guided in any way. Both are very small and very clear water. You could start a Blue Grotto dive blindfolded and find your way back to the exit within 30 seconds. All you would have to do is look for the...

    Question for instructors out there...

I think you are missing the point of the thread. I didn't see anyone asking what could have been done differently or asking for constructive criticism. The OP just wanted to know if other instructors were generally willing to place themselves at risk to aid a student in trouble.

Volume of air in tank at a given pressure/temperature

Since you asked about temperature there is a combined gas law that covers this. P1/T1=P2/T2 where P is pressure and T is temp. in degrees Kelvin.

    Fiberglass back plate

Just realize that it will ONLY conform perfectly to your back while you are in the same position that you molded it in. Also, DON"T make a mold using fiberglass. If you want to make a back mold, make it out of plaster. Then lay the fiberglass into the plaster mold. Watch what kind of plaster...

    Clearing Mask Question

OP was talking about equalizing his mask, not his ears at that point. You HAVE to exhale a bit for that. It takes so little air though that it should not be a consideration in fogging. Joe

    Clearing Mask Question

I think I found your problem. Stop blowing so hard. All you need is a small amount of air to clear a mask. Should be able to easily clear 3 or 4 times on a single breath. If you blow too hard the air escapes the mask instead of filling it. Just exhale gently through your nose. Joe

    Correct Bouyancy Control Dry Suit

Sure there is a way to stop it. Grab the neck seal and pull it open. A large amount of air will be released instantly. Sure, it is a bit moist, and maybe not the warmest of options. It does stop that runaway ascent though. :-) Joe

    Spare air

Your first answer, "because I was not paying attention to my gas supply", sounds more likely. Just how much longer would you have had at 130' with that extra 5 cuft of air in an 80? 2 whole minutes? Maybe? How could you do that dive on an 80 and have plenty of gas to spare if you aren't...
