I think it would be really clumsy to use as a dive knife even with out gloves. I could see carrying one in addition to other cutting tools for the use of the pliers but I would not carry one as my only knife/tool.
Forgot my hood and gloves a few weeks ago. I thought about doing the dive without them, but 52F ish water took that thought out of my mind. Luckily, I only live 10 minutes from the dive site so I sped home and got them. I also forget my towel more often than I bring it which can be a problem...
Well with all the hoses coming off it kind of looks like an octopus so I can see how that works.
But to get back on topic... Yes, an octopus is generally a back up regulator that is used to share air with a buddy. Many divers use lower performance regulators for their octopus.
To dive...
Its my understanding that the talc absorbs oils and other contaminants to prevent them from destroying the seals. The other important part is isolating it from air.
Good move buying tanks. That will make life so much better an easier when diving, I wish I could buy some tanks, but I have to graduate and stop moving all over North America first.
I thought it was a really great course. My instructor went over everything in great detail for 5-6 hours then taught us how to administer oxygen.
My understanding is that you do not need a prescription to have the O2 bottles filled as long as you have an oxygen provider card, however many...
I would suggest choosing from regulators that the local shops can service as its much quicker and easier than sending your regs to some to have them serviced. Any brand will have high quality regs that should suit your purpose. For colder water I would recommend an environmentaly sealed reg...
I only wear my contacts underwater however if I lost them I'm pretty sure I would still be able to see well enough to be safe. I'm also the kind of person who can wear contacts for several days straight and not have irritation so that aspect does not concern me. Close your eyes underwater when...
There weren't any skills other than navigation and some buoyancy, but you were judged based on your competency and comfort in the water. The biggest advantage I found with the AOW course is that it allowed me to do some dives with an instructor that put me in new situations. My instructor was...
If they pass hydro and VIP, then they will be okay. If you look on the neck you should be able to find all of the information about what size they are, material, manufacturer and date manufactured.
I hope they pass without any problems.
It can be a hassle to carry all of your cards around, but if you have forgotten them (or just don't carry them) most shops can look up your certifications. I know a PADI shop can look up PADI certs, I don't know if they can look up between other agencies. I got by for months without bringing...
I'm diving cold water with a drysuit. I generally wear 25-30 lbs depending on the tank i'm using. In warm water with a 3 mm full suit and AL 80 I wear around 12-14lbs. I'm 5'8", 180 lbs.
It depends on the dive really, usually I'm limited by gas, but sometimes I get bored especially if its the same dive site and all the critters are hiding.
I'd have to agree that Shop B's policy sucks and is unfair to you. I can't really say if the shops I use would do this as I have rented over days when they are closed, but my experience would suggest that they won't charge me for those extra days. Too bad Shop A is so far away.
If it doesn't bother you can probably just leave it broken. I haven't had any problems with the switch on my Shockwave turning on or off and I don't use the lock.
