This tipping thing, like the loot bags at kids birthdays has gotten out of hand. Speaking as a rude Canadian we only tip at food places. Wouldn't occur to me to tip on a dive boat and wouldn't feel bad at all about not doing so.

As you can see it is personal preference. I use BC and remove squeeze with suit only. Lots of commercial divers just use the suit as they don't bother with a BC. What ever works for you. Practice your style.

The Fly is the 24 hour countdown as a reminder that you have completed a dive (to any depth greater than 4 feet) in the past 24 hours since exiting the water. Although it may be "dumb" it is there as extra safety reminder and not a particularly bad thing.
