    First experience of panic

I've been in a really uneasy spot myself before. I was doing an 80-foot dive at altitude (so probably closer to 100 ft), and we were following a mooring chain down into a reservoir. I was struggling with my buoyancy and trim, and ended up silting everything out. Couldn't see a damn thing. My...

    Strawberry conditions, anyone?

I haven't been diving since my son was born, and my wife hasn't been in even longer. Can anyone tell me what conditions are like up at Strawberry? I'd like to take my wife up there if possible, Rick and I had the most *beautiful* dive in the kelp last year that still haunts me to this day. Be...

    SandHollow 7/3, 7/4, and 7/5.

Water might be clearer. :D Let us know! Oh, and other than the bus and plane, there's some really cool rock features to dive above/alongside/through, off to the left side of the beach. There might be a line, I can't really remember. You should be able to find it with no problems - if memory...

What concepts did you first encounter here?

I encountered so many concepts on here that it would be impossible to list them all. I then was able to make contacts with some excellent dive buddies and I don't think I would have come across my favorite shop (DiveAddicts in Draper, UT) if it weren't for others on this board. I want to...

What to do when an instructor is out of line?

You have to keep in mind the spirit of the report button; it is for helping the moderators identify a problem. Anything against the code of conduct of this board, including naming dive shops in a negative way or posts that otherwise may open ScubaBoard up to lawsuits of libel and slander (gee..)...

I'm not a teacher... what to do ?

Considering a move from Jacket to bp/wing .. need opinions please.

Seems like scuba diving with the flu is pushing the limits of safety, all by itself. (I'm not disavowing any of your other contributing factors, just pointing out that someone with the flu shouldn't be hitting the water anyways.)

Considering a move from Jacket to bp/wing .. need opinions please.

I'm really happy with my DSS (Deep Sea Supply) wing. Their stuff is very reasonably priced, and a complete setup can be had starting around 460$USD (I just checked their website). The customer service is great, and if you have any questions on weighting and what size wing you need, Tobin is the...

    The "Thanks" button is gone.

I'm sad to see the thanks button gone; it was particularly useful to me when I was first exploring scubaboard to see whose opinions were respected and that a majority tended to listen to. A general consensus, if you will.. this is in part how Lynn and Bob (NWGratefuldiver) garnered my attention...

    A Concerned Diver.

If they're members here, you might be pleasantly surprised and come to a better understanding with them. Honestly, I don't see a problem - you aren't naming and shaming them (please don't..), and the issues you guys have with each other are very real, although it may be as simple as different...

    A Concerned Diver.

Where's "up north"? Chances are there are other groups in your area that you may feel more comfortable diving with. Not to mention other scubaboarders who would love to go on a dive with you.

    The Other State of Diving

I'm disappointed as well, I wish my own instructors had taken the time to *really* show us how to control ourselves in the water column. As such, trim and the like were concepts I took off ScubaBoard and applied to myself on my own with the help of some wonderful dive buddies. Good job!

    20 Questions

Focus on breathing, weighting, and ascending. I wouldn't worry so much about all the questions; the instructor will likely sort a lot of this out in their four dives. Then you can toss your book at him and have him brush up. :) You're a good dad for caring.

    Spring Straps - help

I don't know if it was obvious from the replies, but spring straps need to be sized for proper fit. They create snugness by being pulled over your foot, the tension created then creating a very snug fit. The springs are flexible and extensible in this regard. No further adjustment is necessary...

    Utah Oil Spill?

Has anyone seen the impact of the Chevron pipeline oil spill on the local waters yet? I just heard about it on the news. :(

Oh, I forgot about this thread for a while! What an amazingly wonderful ending to this story. Not only is the camera returned, but new friendships have been forged and this thread stands as a testament of the good we are capable of.

    HOG D1 Reg

No, don't get me wrong or misunderstand them. No need to be cynical about this dive shop. The concern was if the price was so low, they were worried there might be cheap parts or other corners cut to make the regs. They also wanted to make sure that whatever reg I bought, they could service it...

    HOG D1 Reg

I just got my dive shop to look into stocking these! It was an interesting challenge to overcome their objections (too low price, service parts, the unknown factor) but I'm excited, I'll be the first customer. :)
