I'm disappointed as well, I wish my own instructors had taken the time to *really* show us how to control ourselves in the water column. As such, trim and the like were concepts I took off ScubaBoard and applied to myself on my own with the help of some wonderful dive buddies. Good job!

Focus on breathing, weighting, and ascending. I wouldn't worry so much about all the questions; the instructor will likely sort a lot of this out in their four dives. Then you can toss your book at him and have him brush up. :) You're a good dad for caring.

I don't know if it was obvious from the replies, but spring straps need to be sized for proper fit. They create snugness by being pulled over your foot, the tension created then creating a very snug fit. The springs are flexible and extensible in this regard. No further adjustment is necessary...

No, don't get me wrong or misunderstand them. No need to be cynical about this dive shop. The concern was if the price was so low, they were worried there might be cheap parts or other corners cut to make the regs. They also wanted to make sure that whatever reg I bought, they could service it...

I just got my dive shop to look into stocking these! It was an interesting challenge to overcome their objections (too low price, service parts, the unknown factor) but I'm excited, I'll be the first customer. :)
