    Good SPG?

OMS has one that has bar and PSI combined on the one gauge - nice for diving in places other than the US when everyone is talkin' that crazy metric system. :)

    How I dive

I agree. I do the same thing. Whenever I head somewhere overseas I check for local diving and the gear comes with me.

    What size Zeagle Brigade?

5' 11", 170lbs, 33in waist and the Medium Brigade fits me with plenty of room to spare, should I expand in the coming years...

Grand Cayman 9/1-9/6 Plane Ticket Gamble

Get some travel insurance that will cover issues like that: https://www.travelex-insurance.com/Consumer/Welcome.htmx It is generally much cheaper than getting a refundable ticket. Additionally, I have never had an experience where an airline even considered stranding me due to a weather...

    Advance Open Water Certification

I am just back to DC after having been living in Australia and doing all of my diving in 'Open Water'. Needless to say, DC does not offer much in the way of diving. Anyway, I wandered into a local LDS and inquired about their classes, specifically the Wreck specialty. Much to my astonishment...

taking open water course without partner

Only two people in my class new each other - they both flunked, everyone else did great.

    where to go diving?

Actually, I have heard that the reef around Puta Cana is pretty dead and that the best diving around that part of the DR is Catalina Island - a 1 or 2 hr drive away. Not saying DR diving is bad, just that diving off of Puta Cana is pretty average.

    Recommendations for AOW electives

Floater, Be patient, learn what you need to learn, practice, repeat. Deep will take you to 40m. Get an instructor that will have you do your dives in the 30-40m range. Pass the class, practice, then prepare to learn again. Tec territory should not be taken lightly. There is no sense in a...

    Recommendations for AOW electives

Dunno, I would think that most dive resorts would mind, at that depth. I'll grant you the 18-30m difference is not such a big deal, but you wouldn't catch me going to 45m w/ a single tank only. Short NDL, and nitrox really doesn't come into the equation... In any event, if you want to do it...

Why I have decided to stop shopping for ANYTHING at the LDS

In which case they would be catering to a niche market that is looking for something that a larger retail outlet cannot provide (better coffee, anyone?), and in all likelihood willing to pay more. Most shops cater primarily to the rec diver and carry the same things and offer the same services...

    Recommendations for AOW electives

Addressing C: The deep diver specialty takes you to 40m - that is the rec limit. Rescue diver won't get you there. In any event 45m constitutes a technical dive.

Why I have decided to stop shopping for ANYTHING at the LDS

Respectfully, I think setting up LeisurePro2.com is the point. An LDS setting up a basic site of what they currently stock isn't going to cut it. No significant discounts apply without volume, and volume doesn't come without a large customer base that is seeking diverse products. A Joe...

    Deep Sea Detectives

Bashing? No. Didn't do it. I have merely highlighted something that was raised in Kurson's book on these two men, which you reference - should artifacts ever be removed? This is irrespective of legalities. There are a lot of people out there who feel strongly about this, one way or the...

    Deep Sea Detectives

Actually, diving w/ Kohler and Chatterton is pretty cool. Those guys have serious dive knowledge and experience to spare. I wouldn't have turned down the opportunity to learn a few things.

Nah, that's true. From what I've read, these guys are very respectful of war graves. Earlier I was referring to the massive tonnage they hauled from the Andrea Doria and the like.

Wrecks, preservation vs. looting, Kohler and Chatterton... How much can we stir the pot?! No doubt this is what you intended when you started this thread, OBXDIVEGUY ;-) I love it! Keep it going!

    Deep Sea Detectives

Yes, Andy, you are right. I just find it funny that guys that are well known to clean out wrecks (I am not implying they did so illegally) are now charged with raising awareness to not loot these particular ships.

Anybody else see the irony in 'protecting the CG Cutters from looting' and the presence of Kohler and Chatterton?
