Except the Andrea Doria is neither a war-grave OR protected. It was an accident in international waters and they were not the only ones to loot it. I think your bashing of them is more stirring the pot than the original posters nice thread.

Thanks for the heads up OBX, sounds like you had a great time and a nice experience. I hope to meet them one day too. Although I found it a little odd that Richie is using a rebreather for the first time so late. Maybe he's just old fashioned like he sounded in Shadow Divers.

Bashing? No. Didn't do it. I have merely highlighted something that was raised in Kurson's book on these two men, which you reference - should artifacts ever be removed? This is irrespective of legalities. There are a lot of people out there who feel strongly about this, one way or the other. That was the point and bashing doesn't come into it. Did I try to stir the pot - sure, but OBX said he didn't mind :crafty:

So RK has finally started using a rebreather...what model was he using on your dives?

I too enjoy Deep Sea Detectives and liked Shadow Divers. It sounds like nice experience being a part of that operation. I look forward to watching it.

"I find it interesting that the Japanese frequently go to the trouble to bring back their sailors."
I think it is important in the Japanese culture to bury the remains of the dead with their family. While I lived there, I was occaisionally asked where I intended to bury my bones. I assured them that it wouldn't be in their family plot.

I got the chance to meet John and Ritchie ( along with Bob Kurson )at the Boston Sea Rovers show this past spring. I got all 3 of them to autograph "Shadow Divers" and got a chance to talk to John and Ritchie for 10 to 20 minutes. Both were very classy guys and I enjoyed talking to them.

OBXDIVEGUY:
I have to say, I had one of the coolest dives of my life last week! John Chatterton and Ritchie Kohler were here on the Outer Banks doing a show on two of my favorite dive sites. I had the opportunity to work with their crew and dive with them as well.

What a neat experience! Everything seemed to line up great. Even the typical currents and ocean swells died down to lake-like conditions out there for us. Two beautiful days!

The Deep Sea Detectives were great to meet and work with. Ritchie was doing his first rebreather dives after his training and it was real neat to see someone with so much experience, be so excited about something new. They were both real pleasant and fun to be on the boat with.

Hopefully, I'll be able to dive with them again someday!

Richie was using a Silent Diver Evolution. He was very excited about it and absolutely loved it. It was real neat when I asked him a couple of questions about it, he saw that I was interested, and he ended up explaining the whole thing to me. Granted, a lot of it was over my head, so I just smiled and nodded.

I tried that once and had my bluff called.

"Do you know the difference between blah, blah and yada, yada"

"Yeah, of course"

"Ok what is it..."

"Umm.... err... " (hang head in shame)

"Quarry vs. Real Diving"?
Cut me some slack... it's a twelve step plan, it's going to take time!
