What went wrong on your dive today/recently? And what did you learn?

Yes, one of the arguments against using an AIR 2 (or similar) is that if it malfunctions, you might just lose two pieces of important gear, namely, your BC power inflator and your back-up 2nd stage. People, especially people who dive very cold water, practice disconnecting the BC power inflator...

The New Dive Rite Optima CM - My 30 Hour Review

That is unlikely. If that continues to be a problem, I’d try different inflator hoses or slide a 112/DIN o-ring over the collar. Downside is increased difficulty disconnecting.

How long is acceptable for a wing to hold air?

I would find forever acceptable but also several hours since it’s not a big deal, leaks, unless some defective seem or something will likely be in the OPV/ dump valve not yet fully seated or maybe a little loose, it could also be in the inflator, the already suggested water test is the best way...

    1/4 Turn Revisited

I watched only until the diver stepped into the water. My routine is very different. For example: 1. When I snap the cylinder into the BC, I immediately check to see if things are sufficiently tight (by oppositely pulling and pushing on the tank valve and the BC backpack). 2. Before...

How long is acceptable for a wing to hold air?

I don't think it is OK. I think a BC should be in good working order and not lose air pressure when inflated and used as it is normally used. The disagreement is not if a BC should leak or not. The disagreement is about how many hours, weeks, months, or years a fully inflated BC should show no...

Adding an inflation valve to a surface drysuit

My main issue is body health. I put on a TON of weight over the last 18 months. I may stay this way; maybe I will lose it again. I am not investing in 'fat' clothes, either. But I don't want to get in our local water without a barrier; it's pea green and some days it stinks. I had considered it...

How long is acceptable for a wing to hold air?

Why not? Are you ever diving more than an hour without adjusting your wing inflation? Honestly, how often are you going more than 20 minutes without adjusting it? Who is putting a pressure gauge on a wing? You inflate it until the OPV pops and walk away. If you come back in an hour and it is...

Dumbest Mistake PSA; Do NOT Remove Kit Underwater (at least not for a silly leak:))

Yes, compact doubles (9+9 liters, 200 bars, 2 valves plus reserve) or large single steel (15 liters, 232 bars, 2 valves plus reserve) - substantially the same amount of gas (3600 liters). I use a plastic backplate and a "strange" wing from Coltri, which has protrusions on shoulders and on the...

    Drysuit leaking around neck

Did you do it with the water in an insideout suit like in the video? Or with soap on the outside? The first method is more sensitive with regards to the small difficult holes. It is easier to see soapy water being pushed out of a hole on a dry suit, than it is seeing bubbles on a wet soapy suit.

    Info HOG Air2

I just spent a week at Little Cayman Beach Resort. I asked our boat crew what equipment was the most likely to cause problems I expected an answer like SPG spools or LPI inflator leaking air into the BCD. They responded immediately: "Air2's, of all brands. More than 30% of the people have...

Drysuit shoulder dumps: Apeks vs Si-Tech

SI TECH makes about 4 maybe more different style inflation valves and they are all interchangeable. You could always switch to a high or low profile center push button if you don’t like the slide inflation valve.

    Transmitters on O2 and dil

I run transmitters on both my o2 and dil and like being able to keep track of my o2 and dil usage. By tracking it in my excel sheet I can see different trends in my usage when looked at along side my profile. It also has helped whenever my drysuit inflator decided to grenade an o-ring and slowly...

how often do you change o rings

Sorry to resurrect an old post but the topic is relevant to everyone so I thought I would add: Lubrication of O-rings is ESSENTIAL to O-ring health and longevity! All O-rings (whether Butyl rubber, Nitrile, Silicone or otherwise) require moisture to remain supple and pliable. It is exactly...

Why don't wings have shoulder dump valves?

Why no shoulder dump? One less orifice that can fail, leak, crack, break. Use the butt dump. Some people never even use the left inflator to dump, only to inflate. In fact they have the end secured down to the shoulder strap so it won’t hang down and bang into things.

    Pony Bottle Configuration

Alternatively, you could just go for backmounted doubles instead. If you're adding a cylinder, why not one that you'll actually use? Have an isolator valve on your manifold so you can shut off the cylinder/stage that is leaking. Unlike a pony, you can have full redundancy with a set of doubles...

    Air Source Part

I've been using the AirSource2 for 4 years; had to service the first one several times, before replacing it about a year ago. I'm now abandoning it entirely in favor of a standard inflator with a long-hose donate/necklace arrangement on a BPW setup. In theory, I think the breathable inflator is...

How long is acceptable for a wing to hold air?

Like I said, you are now getting into a teritory of diminishing returns. Yeah, take appart dump valve and inflator hose, but IMO, you have equal chances of both fixing your leak or making it worse. Question thought, how did you inflate it to test? Using your tank or oral?

Dumbest Mistake PSA; Do NOT Remove Kit Underwater (at least not for a silly leak:))

The right call would have been get back on the boat and figure it out or deal with the annoying sound and continue. It was a very small steam of bubbles... not a roar like something catastrophic. Believe me, I wasted plenty more gas trying to track it down then it ever would have leaked out on...

    Leaking Dry Suit?

With the right undergarments I don't really feel "freezing".. but def cold. Last week I dove in my Seaskin Nova drysuit for 1hr 45m. Water was 37f. By the end I was chilled, but not unbearable. And I am a wuss when it comes to cold in the water. When I took the suit off it was mildly damp inside...
