Unfortunately the story did not bother to explain how they got stranded.

Divers rescued after found clinging to lobster pot
The divers were spotted in difficulty off the coast at Greenends Gulley, Eyemouth, today (Sunday), around 2.15pm.

Both Eyemouth RNLI lifeboats were launched with Coastguard teams from Eyemouth, Berwick and Dunbar also dispatched.

The lifeboat crew rescued two divers from the sea and transferred them to the all-weather lifeboat, with one diver receiving casualty care.

The remaining diver was rescued by the inshore lifeboat and all three were taken back to Eyemouth. One diver was transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A RNLI spokesman said the three divers had been clinging to a lobster pot marker after getting into difficulty in the water and were unable to make their way back to shore.

If that headline left you scratching your head, at the very end of the article the author did note that they were clinging to the "lobster pot marker".

When I read it I was looking for how they were going to write out of the headline. Looks like headline ran out of room in the paper and editor didn't pick it up.

Jeesh how big are lobster pot markers in the UK??

Since divers wear a BC they don't need a float, as such. One hooks to the float line and uses the pot as anchor so one doesn't get blown out of the area when someone comes looking at your last known position. It's a big ocean to search, but the lobsterman will be back to check the trap, you just hope he didn't check just before you got there.

Around here the tide will just drag you and the lobster pot around
