I just saw this product on Kickstarter that turns a smartphone into a dive computer, underwater camera, video recorder and logbook. I think it’s a very cool idea that I can use my iPhone 11 pro, with it's newly designed camera, underwater through this device.

Aside from the basic features of a dive computer, the real time color correction is a great added feature to this product. They even raised above their initial goal of $10k - rocketing to around $150k.

I’m trying to find reviews of the product, but I can’t seem to find some.

Thoughts anyone?

And then what do you do when you want to buy a new phone?

And is it worth risking your phone when it floods or gets lost?

For how cheap action cameras and dive computers are I don't see the risk/reward. Just my opinion. There are already a number of products out there that convert phones to dive computers and cameras.

Edit: Reading the FAQs section doesn't give me a lot of confidence. You have to remember to set your phone in airplane mode before every dive. If the app crashes all decompression data is lost. It uses RGBM. I can't figure out why in the hell they would do that for a new computer. Finally, it's not a matter of if it will flood, but when. Hence the need to test the seal before every dive and the reason they provide extra o rings for you to buy.

No way will I bring my phone under water in or out of a housing.

It's universal housing

Someone sent me a link and I checked out the FAQ just yesterday.

1 dive drains 40% of your phone battery. You know what that means for a double dive when you take one too many photos on your first dive and didn't drop into the water with a full charge. No thank you.

If the app crashes during a dive, you can't get it back up on that dive, leaving you without DC. No thank you.

Paired with a basic algorithm, no AI, etc. you may as well buy a cheap dive computer and waterproof housing for your phone.

I do not see what this is other than an overpriced snorkelling gimmick or waterproof phone case with built-in bottom timer, in no way can it work as a primary DC.

Look on the bright side: you'll only be getting targeted ads from LP and DRiS and DGX and none of that "enlarge your breasts with cialis to cure tinnitus" stuff.

I have seen these housings before. I was in the Philippines and there was a professional videographer at the resort. He had his ridiculously expensive setup and on top a weefine housing for his phone. He said it was one of the best purchases he made but the app (dive+) was sketchy and would crash often :/
Camera housings are often more expensive than the cameras you put them in and while i would love that, i cannot justify the price. Especially if you upgrade your camera. This product presents good value for someone looking into underwater photography/videography and what makes it interesting for me is that my PHONE WOULD FIT. Both the Weefine and the kraken are too small to house larger phones, and I have a note 8. In all honesty I have no interest in the dive computer since, like has been said, it uses RGBM and I use a wrist mount that I am used to. I am only interested in it for the photos.
In terms of battery; yeah that drain is quite a lot but i have a go pro hero 3 at the moment and that needs to be recharged after every dive. 40%(ish) is not ideal but still better than that.

All in all I am interested but on the fence since it is a new product. If i do not cancel my pledge i will most probably try it with my old Note 5 first.

Just my two cents.
