My wife and I both have unique BP&W setups, but if the vis is poor, I also wear this. I got a 3 pack on Amazon super cheap. I shave my head, so I will also wear one of the darker colors to keep my head from burning.

I am folically challenged myself... and the last time out the top of my head did get cooked. So I would like to find a cap or hood that is comfortable to use while diving.

Having a brightly coloured piece of neoprene over the tank or an armband is an idea I have seen in a couple of dive centres and differentiates that particular group from other dive groups.

Knowing what your buddy wears during the dive is also important. Several of my buddies carry a stage / pony so it's noticeable in the darker depths too.

Another option is adding colored silicone tape to your gear. It's a smaller indicator, but you can put it almost anywhere.

Put some reflective tape on the bottom of your fins. I find white works best. Get a roll and as it wears out, replace it. Works great as it reflects sunlight and light from a flashlight. You can even cut it into patterns or letters to individualize them.

Also get a stand out colored mask. I have a bright orange mask that I use when I teach so when I'm looking at somebody they know it me. The rest of the time most of my masks are boring black.

You could also look into skull caps or buffs that are a specific color or pattern that only your group has.

I use a couple of color permanent pen, not really 'Sharpie' but similar with big tip, and painted on my fin front and back. My fin is all-black from the factory, so painted it help distinguished from others' onboard the boat. and it does help a bit underwater. I use White, Neon Green, and Bright Blue. I just traced the logos and stamped-out part of the fin. I'd have to re-paint it once a year, though.

Also, another trends in SE Asia (I'd seen them in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia)is use a colorful quick-dry fabric hat with chin strap, instead of a hood. Something similar to what in this Link. It also help protect you from the sun while on surface. Also, ornated hood like what in this Link would also help identify you/your buddy underwater. (Well, most of the design fit the ladies rather than the guys.)
You can also use the 'Buff' type of fabric headwear on your head, but this doesn't help with exposure protection.

Some ppl also use a small float toy tied to their first stage... but that kind of increase risk of entanglement if you're concerned on it.

This may be a weird question... but do you feel more comfortable diving with having your ears covered? Does it change equalizing at all?
Didn't change anything. I got certified in cold water with a snug 7mm hood and didn't have an issue, and this thing is only 2mm without any sort of seal or tight pressure on your ears so it's a complete non-issue IMO. You shouldn't be concerned, and in any case it's cheap to try.

I did get a 2mm beanie from Amazon about a week ago. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.
