I did end up going with the Cressi Maui Shorts - they are well made in Italy, and the ankle strap post is built into the hard plastic of the fin, not just a piece of plastic they molded into the plastic.

I'm happy I went this route than with the stock fins from that Cressi snorkel kit I was going to get. I just ended up ordering the mask & snorkel as a set without the fins and bout the Maui Shorts separate.

They fit perfect in my 21" carry on suitcase
