Hello all,

I used to live in Southern California and enjoyed surfing but the thought of diving never crossed my mind until I moved to a land locked state (go figure). I dive a few times per year (oceanic and lakes) and am looking to getting some dives in while in San Diego on a short trip.

Just curious if anyone has dived with local dive guides or companies there? What was your experience like?

I have my own gear and would like to do some dives, maybe Kelp Forest, La Jolla Cove (is it actually good?), and am open to other sites. Thanks for your help.

Two boats I can recommend are

Those two boats are good recommendations. I've dove with Waterhorse a bunch, they are great. Keep an eye on PowerScuba (via Meetup and Facebook). They organize shore dives a couple times a week.

I can also recommend Waterhorse!

I ultimately ended up going with Zach’s Scuba Shack. It was a good experience. 👍

I dove with La Jolla dive a few years back and recommend them. Visibility/accessibility at the cove is very hit or miss depending on conditions, but there are also a few pretty decent dive sites nearby at La Jolla Shores if the cove won't work on a particular day.

San Diego is fun when it good vis. But that doesn't happen often enough. Water horse provide excellent service.Try a dive boat trip to Catalina from Long Beach, San Pedro.
