Anybody dive in Coldwater Lake near St. Helens? It's likely got outstanding viz and not too much boat activity. Whether there is anything to see is a different matter. Since it was formed by the eruption, the geological features that are visible could be interesting.

Haven't dove it, but it looks like there's a boat ramp and easy access. No gas engines allowed on the lake, so that's a plus.

I expect there would be a pucker-inducing thermocline, probably in the 30's on the bottom. Got a cold-water regulator? 🥶

Let me know if you want to set up a dive sometime.

Silty boring bottom with occasional logs. It was formed by a lahar. I am not sure what geological features you're expecting at the scuba scale even if the vis is great - which would be 100ft like in Lake Cresent - which is also pretty cold and boring apart from a few deep wrecks and some loggy areas.

At 2500ft elevation yeah it's going to be frosty down there. On the plus side it was historically stocked and those trout are now resident. Although seeing more than a fleeting glance is unlikely

Nothing in the USFS regulations about swimming or diving, looks like the pool is open.

I could probably do a dive on August 16 or 17th, Sep 13 or 14, or some weekend in October, weather permitting (no recent rain or snow for maximum vis).

Do you have a scooter? Not required but we could cover a lot more territory.
