Review Diving the Avelo System

The 300 bar DIN connection is for the tank pressure.

Even if there were 300 bar yoke regs, you wouldn't want the knob bonking you in the back of the head.

Now I understand why they require a DIN connection and rig the valve opening on the "wrong" side.

Bulky, but I still don't see why they have it on the wrong side. I've got a couple of really long tanks (HP120). All DIN valves. I haven't found that hitting my head on the reg is much of an issue. I can only recall doing that once. Spearfishing and I was disappointed in myself for a missed shot, and moved my head back farther than normal.

I guess if your reg protruded pretty far that could be an issue.

Also, dang, I'd never seen the side by side comparison. That's extremely bulky, in comparison. Is it the internal bladder taking up extra space or what? Because you could probably get 100-130 feet of gas with an equivalent sized steel tank

I used to have a couple of HP130 tanks. They were 8" diameter. I got rid of them and replaced them with a pair of HP120s. The 8" diameter of the HP130s was the reason. I could accommodate on my own boat, but it was still a hassle. Would have been worse if I used charters exclusively.

I use the steel 120s. I liked them because their diameter is the same as a AL80. I can swap between an 80 without messing with the cam and at all. The will fit on any boat and are a big tank for big lungs….

As I have said before, we'll all see how this works out. Seems like some expectations have already been exceeded.
