Hi,

Does anyone have previous experience with travel to Egypt with DPV? Specifically with Egypt Air?. I recently purchased the Seacraft GO and want to take it on my travel. The batteries are lithium 97Wh segments x6 and fall within the aviation guidelines for lithium batteries of under 100 Wh. The baggage restrictions on Egypt Air websight has one paragraph that concerns me slightly: ‘no personal mobility devices such as hover boards allowed, in checked or unchecked baggage’. Could a DPV be lumped in this category?

There's certainly a difference of interpretation and enforcement of the rules in Egypt. Considering the cost of a DPV, I wouldn't want to risk just 'getting away with it'.
I've actually had it confirmed in writing by the authorities at Hurghada Airport that I can take it with me, which seems hard to believe if it's illegal.
However, if you know something specific, it would be good to know where it is actually stated that bringing a DPV to Egypt is illegal.

A dive center in Sharm told me that I can’t bring my dpv through Sharm airport. However a dive center in Dahab told me I could , so who knows.

It's very confusing in Egypt due to different interpretations by different airports and presumably dive centres, but I don't think the authorities at Hurghada would have approved DPVs in writing if it was illegal to bring them. I also wonder if the dive centre in Sharm might have a commercial interest in hiring them out, rather than encouraging divers to bring their own! As I've got it in writing, I feel reasonably confident but I'll find out in March 25, when I go there again, and thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, no the Dive Centre in Sharm wouldn’t let me use my DPV with them. And they do not rent them.

Adding a piece to this puzzle: ORCA Dive Club in Soma Bay is promoting their Divers Days 2025 including a Try-UW-Scooter session. These sessions also took place the previous years.

Here's a shout-out for Marsa Shagra dive village near Marsa Alam. They do allow DPVs!! I've dived there 4 times in the past and it's well worth a visit. It's an amazing place if a little expensive!!

Here's a follow-up from my last post in December. I'm currently diving in Egypt with my Seacraft Go DPV!!
I flew from Manchester, UK to Hurghada with TUI and cleared through the airport with absolutely no problem.
I made certain that I had all the necessary paperwork with me as well as written confirmation from both the airline and Hurghada Airport that I could take my DPV. I also followed the correct procedures by taking the lithium batteries in my hand luggage and isolating them from each other.
The dive centre,Red Sea Diving Safaris has no issue with me using the DPV as I am qualified for the DPV and as a Solo Diver.

Welcome to the randomness that is Egypt!
