For travel to warm water I use an Aqua Lung outlaw.

Agreed perfect travel bcd. If you need pockets pick up some rogue waist straps

Backplate and wing will cover and adapt to just about anything you can think of. My first choice.

If you really want a non-backplate option, I have used a Dive-rite travel something that has worked great. No idea what the current model is, mine is nearly 20 years old.

Outlaw can be completely disassembled, packs better than anything else, only backplate that was anywhere close was the VDH flat one.

It is a very good travel BCD. I had one but I sold it. XDeep makes very good gear. Yes the waist strap is high but was a non issue for me. As a photographer, i found that I could put myself in any position and not move.

I was looking at sidemount for my configurationf or both home and travel. I would have kept it for my wife or daughter. Now when I travel, I take my SS BP and STA which in a 5 mil, AL80, I don't need any additional weight. Kind of convenient for shore diving in places like Maui to not have to rent weights. But that's just me.

Very happy with my XDeep Zen. Single tank BP/W setup that can also switch to doubles with a change of the wing for a doubles if you want to go that route. The aluminum plate is travel friendly. Only thing you would need to add would be weight pouches. Although, while in Florida in a rashguard with a steel tank I was running without any additional weight. The Dive Rite pouches look nice and seem well regarded. XDeep also has some in varying sizes of a simpler design. For tropical with thin 3mm you could probably just use an inexpensive pair of XS Scuba trim weight pouches on the waist band and held in place with a couple belt slides. A 7mm with in Cali though and you'll probably want larger pouches.

You can do the Zen with adjustable shoulder straps like a regular BC or have plain 2" webbing for about $70 less.

Although I do agree the DGX BP/W is a heckuva deal. With the aluminum plate to keep the weight down some will make it easier to travel with.

Another option might be the Dive Rite Trans Pac. Reviews report it to be well made.

Camo is a really bad idea as then your dive buddy can't see you.
