And none of them meet the OP’s criteria…

I think people make good points about 60 lb wings being a good idea, but I'll just stick to listing 45 - 50 lb wings for this thread. Could be useful in the future.

Well then did you buy this yet or are you just visiting

Look at it $250 right now Magnificent!

Yeah I love standing on my tiptoes jumping waves to stay alive when I'm already rooted from the dive

I recently made a dive where the conditions were deteriorating. I was wearing my double 85s and two deco bottles. When I surfaced from the dive, the seas were running a solid 6-8'. Even with my 60lb wing fully inflated, the swells would wash over my head. I had to give a kick at the top of each swell to keep my head above the surface. The boat was easily a mile out an picking up other divers. I had to wait 10 min for the pickup. If I only had a 45lb wing, it would have been ugly. It would have been a serious struggle to keep my head above water. I was so happy to have that 60lb wing.

Most don't have a clue about this stuff we need a special translation for the millimetre buoyancy nuts

Extra inches of fabric wing drag on a 200 pound lump trying to push itself through water ha ha ha ha!

I'm going to hazard a guess that if you're running doubles you're also running a decent set of regs. Why? Because when everything goes bad at 200ft or whatever you want the regs to work. You want flow when you're breathing hard. Admittedly most regs will give you enough but why not buy most regs?

If you think that 45lbs will be "just enough," I would strongly encourage you to reconsider. Get the extra 5lbs of lift and you'll appreciate it at some point.

Just my $0.02

I'm not sure why you are limiting yourself to donut wings. There is no practical difference between donut and horseshoe wings for doubles use, because the part of the wing that would allow air to travel from one side to the other on a donut wing travels underneath the tanks. This means you'd have to be almost vertical, head down, for air to freely travel between the sides. If you need to re-distribute air from side to side, it's much easier to simply orient yourself somewhat heads up and allow air to travel through the 'top' of the wing.

I also believe that the lift capacities claimed by various manufacturers are nowhere near standardized. I have an older 45lb dive rite rec wing, and I am certain that it provides quite a bit more than 45 lbs, if any of my other wings are even close to their claimed lift. The shape of the wing, especially the width, and even the size of the tanks it is used on, determine the actual available lift when mounted on a set of doubles.

Unfortunately, the only way to evaluate the performance of a wing is to try it out and see how it works.
