How come the rEvo causes so much debate, it really seems to be the Marmite of the rebreather world, I don't think I ever see this much consternation about any other unit.

Amusing to watch tho!!

LOL! So true. I think it's mostly because the rEvo has so many design features that are so different than "the usual suspects". Most of the other units on the market are variations on the same theme. The rEvo is just ... very different. And, to people who don't have real, significant experience with it, "different" translates as "inferior" by default. They believe their unit is very good - among the best - so anything that is VERY different must not be as good.

You'll notice that most of the people knocking it are people who are not qualified on rEvo and have not spent any significant amount of time diving one. I know a couple of experienced CCR instructors who have dived a rEvo a lot and they will knock it. I'm always happy to hear whatever they have to say about the rEvo. Especially what they say about its weaknesses.

I also know at least one very experienced CCR instructor who dives and teaches a number of the usual suspects, including rEvo and others that have been mentioned in here, and that instructor prefers the rEvo for any personal/fun diving (including cave).

None (including rEvo) are perfect. All of the usual suspects are good units. As the many answers to the OP show, there are a lot of factors involved in choosing a CCR that go beyond the specific design elements of the different units.

In my dealings over the years, the guys who looked like crap and have no trim and buoyancy on rebreathers are always on revo. Obviously that’s just my personal observances in my area, but it doesn’t leave a good picture in your mind when you hear revo. Add to that, lots of features that some of us think are dumb or hyped to sound better than they are, and a unit with a lot of proprietary parts.

Because the JJ, Meg, Defender, XCCR, AP, Optima, and even the Kiss (and more) just quietly do the actual dives instead of weenie wagging about how great, marvelous, cheap, and flaw free they are on the internet.

Due to a dealer in that is currently having on trial, an assorted things he has done in the past, rEvo will not have a good name in the Florida region of the country. That is local (Florida) dive politics. Not the rest of the world.

That's like talking to someone from California that insists that you can't tow a trailer over 55 MPH because that is illegal. Out of my way once I cross that Arizona state line because I can now legally tug that trailer down the interstate at 75 and that would would still be holding traffic up.

Your local area does not equal the rest of the country/world.

That may or may not have had at least a handful of students that have died in many other parts of the US.

That's you making assumptions for people that live in a state that you don't live in. Do us a favor and not make statements that you can't back up because they originate from your butthole and not from fact. What Peter Sotis did has/had no effect on my or anyone I dive with's opinion of the Revo.

Man I love my unit and probably praise it to the point of annoying some people, but you Revo f-ckers are a whole other breed of fanboy

:D I will certainly own that. :D And I don't mind getting a big ration of good-natured $h!t about it, either. I'm a fanboy and I know it. The more I dive it and the more I learn about other units, the bigger a fanboy I become. I'm sorry I've been annoying a bunch of you on this. Genuinely.

It's ok. I'm a fanboy of my unit. But some of the Revo dudes take it to a whole new level. You in particular haven't bothered me with your thoughts on it, though I think maybe you annoyed some others
