I had been tying the fisherman's knot to attach my necklace to the regulator. However I quickly lost two of them.

Now I just tie a bowline with a small loop on each end of the bungee cord. Each can them fit tightly over the mouthpiece securely holding in place. Given a sharp enough pull, one knot will slip off freeing the regulator but the other will stay on saving the cord.

So far has worked pretty well.

Take one length of 6mm bungee - about 1m/3'.

Tie the end off using a double fisherman's bend. Pull it tight and leave about a 20mm tail.

Adjust the length of the bungee; cut, then seal with a lighter.

Tie off the other end using a double fisherman's bend.

Open the 'loop', stick in regulator mouthpiece, pull tight and leave about a 20mm tail.

Or pay loads of money for someone else to tie it.

You're effectively tying the following but pulling them apart and shoving the regulator in the 'loop'. As it's bungee, the give means the knots shouldn't part provided there's a small tail.

If your fisherman's knot is slipping or coming undone, you aren't doing a sufficient number of wraps around the line. Different materials have have different slip or slickness. A slick material requires more wraps. In @Wibble 's post above the line has two wraps.

Here's a link to a triple or three wrap. I usually default to 3, but if the line feels slick, I start with 5.

I zip tie it and leave one end un-knotted, any hard tug will have it slip off in an emergency.

I've never had a problem with bungees self-untying as the bungee compresses and grips tightly when the knot's done up.

Pull the two ends of the knot tighter using pliers.

You could put a blob of glue within the knot although I'm not sure that would do anything useful (need the two knots to slide apart/together when you need to take it off the mouthpiece (e.g. to replace it).

No need for cable ties (IMHO)
