Hi all!

Seems I'm heading to France for work for a couple weeks - it seems I'll have the weekends off due to local rules, as I have a 5 hour drive each way to Lot - I was hoping to spend the weekends cave diving.

I will not have a chance to bring all equipment, nor a buddy, so I'll be doing guided dives.
Would the lovely community have recommendations for choice of operator?

I'm SSI "Cave diver" Certified (dive to 1/4th doubles, one jump/T)

I guess doing the full cave could be cheaper than guided dives, but believe I want more cave dives in before approaching full cave.

Well, apart from Emergence du Russel there really isn't one - the "order" of heading to France was received a couple hours ago.
I've only dived Plura cave before, getting to experience a few other ones would be awesome..

Hi
Check with the guys at "the cave to be".
I am sure they will help you :)

I'll second that, here's the webpage. And there's also this guy. But be sure to check the rules for visiting France, with this damned Covid business, everything gets complicated.

Looked at "The Cave to be" site. Interesting they put restrictions on the time length of your dives for two dives and one dive per day. Perhaps they are deeper that typical Mexico Tulum dives?

Oli's "Cave to be" is the most well known "shop" in the Lot. He's got alot of rental gear and the knowledge you need to dive there. Just email him beforehand to ensure gear is ready. The other option is Harald and Monique's. Home They are more of a diver's BNB, but they are great people and can help you out potentially if Oli can't. Whenever I go we stay with Harald and Monique. If there's anything we need that they don't have or we need from a "traditional" dive shop, we stop by Oli's. The Lot is a beautiful area. Make sure you spend time exploring. We found tons of dry caves on the side of the road to wander into

I know just a few caves there; I dived only 3 of them, and I "know" the profile of some others. Most of the caves are rather shallow at the beginning, and all of my dives were about 1h (within GUE cave1 limits). Some of them can go deep (hypoxic depths - Ressel for instance), but not close to the entrance. I know that St. Sauveur (which I didn't dive) goes rather deep, rather soon - and I assume there are others like that. Anyway, frankly speaking with you, I do not believe that a full-cave diver would feel satisfied with those limits.

I personally think that those limits exist to guarantee a bit of margin to the guide. Indeed, the main problem is the distance between diving sites. To reach one site can easily take 45min/1h. Add the time to fill the tanks, to put on the equipment, etc. and you will see that doing 3 dives per day is doable, but requires doing everything quickly and super efficiently (I don't believe that many people try to do it). So the guide cannot do many dives per day...

St. George (which I didn't dive) goes rather deep, rather soon
After 950m you go below 30meter, that isn’t soon. You might think about saint sauveur, after 200meter you reach 70meter.
But yes contact Oli, conditions aren’t great atm but he knows where to go.

Yes, you're right, I was thinking about St. Sauveur, my bad :) I edited the post, thanks for pointing it out
