Dive 2098 6/10/2021 Newport RI Kings Beach solo

Sunny day light winds from the NE, tide was out going, surface temp 62 for the 1st ten feet then a 10F drop below that. Max depth 13FSW 37min BT vis 10'-15' B temp 52F.
Lots of fish, small togs and bait fish were everywhere. I was too optimistic judging the water temp in the shallows and wore 3mm farmer John bottoms and light hood. The 7mm FJ bottoms and 2mm hooded vest would have been a better choice or a dry suit.
I was happy to able to get down the hill and into the water, back out and up the hill, without hurting myself; the good vis and active sea life were a bonus. Good to be back in the water even for a short dive.:yeahbaby:

Congrats!

Since I'm not affluent in RI shore diving, is that viz typical? 10-15'?

I would have had to have been thawed out afterwards wearing just that exposure suit!

It's typical vis for a good day at that site, sometimes it's better exceeding 20'. Other times it's a washing machine filled with floating seaweed and 0-1'; depends. Visibility of 10' anywhere along the RI shoreline is good, off shore it can be much better.

Well, the walk up the small hill back to car warmed me up just fine! I did have 7mm jacket on also but it wasn't enough, for me.

Sounds pretty great. One of these days I'll make the 7 hr car ride up there and jump in.

Let me know!

Wouldn't do it any other way! I need a local guide, lol. I'll get lost and you'd see me on the 6 o'clock new 50 miles from sure being rescued (if at all!)
