Hey everyone

Decided to bite the bullet and get a shearwater.

There is a shop here in NC that has both and will be comparing them side by side next week.

My main question is the compass.

The Teric has an option where the compass can always be displayed and definitely want that option however not sure if the compass can always be displayed on the Perdix AI.

Any thoughts on the difference in the compass on these two units?

Or any other features and benefits that are exclusive to one and not the other?

Thanks in advance

I don’t like the Perdix compass. Way too touchy and sensitive. I use an analog one.

I had a Perdix first and bought a Teric later. I didn't use the compass much on the Perdix, and like @Marie13, I found that my old analog compass was more usable in more orientations. There isn't an equivalent on the Perdix of just having the compass N arrow always on like the Teric, but there are display configurations that have a partial Perdix screen with a partial compass rose segment. The always-on compass on the Teric works well enough for me that I don't wear the analog compass anymore. I don't know if has been improved or I just got less fussy. I really like the always-on feature, although I discovered when starting up after the pandemic that you really should calibrate it once in awhile.

There are several compass display options in Teric. I like to use the no button touch one that shows everything I need to know in a glance. The green dot that roams around the rim of the display shows the home direction, while the red arrow shows the north.

David,
I used my instructors Perdix in naviogation class and it seemned if I even twitched the compass went spinning, he said it was very sensitive.

Since you used both how is the display/visibility on the Perdix vs the Teric ?
Is Perdix easier to read because it is larger or Teric because of the updated display??

Obviously a very subjective answer, but I find the Teric easier to comprehend at a glance. Not sure if that is different display type, brightness, layout, use of color differently, but that's my opinion.

Had perdix, don’t ever recall the compass but it’s a great computer, shortly after getting a Teric the perdix was sold and I bought a second Teric. The display is very crisp and bright, I use the customizable display to show the heading in °

I don’t use the floating arrow but it is a cool feature.
