Seems somewhat similarly placed to RAID Deco40 (without trimix) and PADI Tec40. I think a "light backgas deco" course is a good place for those who want to extend their rec dives but aren't ready or able to commit to full tech. My one concern would be that instructors/shops push it onto folks as a "advanced rec" course without adequate understanding of what is involved. An overhead is an overhead, soft or hard.

That is an individual issue though, not an agency one.

What are the equipment (particularly redundant gas) requirements? Do they use air or EAN28 or ?

"using either traditional recreational equipment or introducing them to using a sidemount system"...

So, not back mount doubles? Single tank (unless sidemount) and single gas with DECO on back-gas? Unimpressed with where this could lead to....

Not sure they have the right tools in the toolbox...

I agree in principle, but a pony is considered "traditional rec equipment" so I could see a situation where a single BM set combined with an AL40 or 80 stage as redundant could be described this way, in an effort to avoid scaring potential customers off who think they need super duper special tech equipment.

Would have to check the course standards, I am sure it will be laid out one way or the other. The link provided is just an advertising blurb. If it is only a single BM cylinder, then I would not recommend this course, but im willing to give the benefit of the doubt for now.

According to course notes, backmount options are single backmount with a slung stage. Dive is planned using back gas for the entire dive with stage gas up to EAN 40) used for redundancy or to accelerate deco: "During this program, you will learn to plan your decompression stops using only your back gas. This ensures that you will have a sufficient amount of gas left to safely reach the surface. The decompression gas makes the dive plan safer by increasing the conservatism level and accelerating your decompression obligation."

The new course standards have been published.
24 dives min
Deep specialty reqd
EAN40 speacialty reqd
SM specialty reqd or slung deco gas

Kind of weird that twins don't seem to be allowed. My first guess as to why is because ssi doesn't have a recreational level specialty for them.
