Where and how do you keep your cutting tool

The only thing you can do wrong is to NOT have a line cutter of some kind, or to have just one that is not reachable with both hands.
Mine is on my chest strap, reachable with either hand. See Fishhook in Finger

They'll be on the underside.

Mine's a standard Suunto compass with bungee mounts threaded through the Trilobite sheath. I have the compass on top and the Trilobite under my wrist.

Blunt serrated steak knife and Eezycut trilobite, each in their sheath on my BP/W's waist band, right next to the buckle in the center of my waist. Easily reachable by either hand.

Trauma shears in my right thigh pocket, front part shoved into a plastic tube attached with a ziptie to a bungee loop.

Knife on the left side of my waist strap, trilobite line cutter on the bungee straps of my Perdix.
In 2 years of diving I've only used the knife to split firewood between dives, trilobite is what I'll use to cut lines and stuff.
Still always bring the knife on dives though, because why not.

Knife on left waist band or BC attachment point depending on which BC, trilobite on right computer bands.

Knife on right side of waist band (acts as holder for long hose). Line cutter on PDC strap, line cutter on harness near chest d-ring (oppisite side of PDC). Shears in pocket.

Two is one one is none, I want two, so it is three for me...

I will also sometimes carry a cutting device on my camera tray...

EMT shears in a sheath on waistband right side, kept in place w/ a triglide (this doubles as a longhose retainer)
Trilobyte in Velcro sheath sewn to my drysuit's left forearm

Probably not necessary to have 3 different cutting tools, but none are in my way. Who knows, maybe some day I'll need one, drop it, need another one, drop it, and be very grateful for the third.

EMT shears in a MOLLE pouch. Attached to 2 x 1" pieces of bicycle inner tube that can go on the 2" webbing anywhere there's room. I usually put them on the shoulder strap below the D-ring so it's somewhere on my side (it slides around a bit).
