Rather than post a new thread, I'll post this as a follow up here since it's relevant. Indonesia is taking a different COVID-19 vaccination strategy from the United States. There are different articles sources, but here's one from Bloomberg from Dec. 15th. I just learned about it from Apple News+ today (sorry if it's known on Scuba Board; first I've heard of it, and thought it worth sharing). Some bits from the article:

"Indonesia plans to vaccinate its young working-age population against the coronavirus before the elderly, in contrast to much of the world that’s planning on putting its vulnerable older people first in line.

Southeast Asia’s first country to receive delivery of Covid-19 vaccines will focus on inoculating those between 18 to 59 years of age, starting with those working on the front lines of the pandemic such as health workers, the police, and the military."

Also:

"Health workers on the islands of Java and Bali, which account for more than 60% of confirmed cases, will receive the 1.2 million doses of China’s Sinovac Biotech Ltd. vaccine that arrived on Dec. 6. That will be followed by front line workers in the rest of the country."

So they're using a different vaccine from the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines emergently approved in the U.S. and the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine approved in the U.K.). And how long it'll take to reach places like Raja Ampat and Komodo National Park, well...

Sinovac has only been tested for healthy people 18 - 56. And, more important, there are still no officcial data published.

Google translation of the news on vaccines:
Jokowi said that currently only 3 million doses of Sinovac vaccine have landed in the country. In the near future, he said 122.5 million vaccines would arrive from the Chinese company.

Indonesia will also bring in 50 million doses of Novavax vaccine from Canada, 50 million doses of Covax vaccine from Gavi, 50 million doses of AstraZaneca vaccine from the UK, and 50 million doses of Pfizer vaccine from the United States.

Will be allocated for paramedics in Sorong and manokwari first.
Actually it scares me. Without the answer to these 2 questions it can make things worse. Can people still be infected after being vaccinated? Can they still infect others?

Seems to be the case. In Africa people given vaccines from China contracted the virus and had to be quarantined.
Getting anything from China and it seems it is not actually effective. China just admitted it lied about the numbers of infected people so who can trust anything they want to sell you.

2021 may end up being worse than 2020.

Another question is how long would the vaccination works?
Flu shot is required every year because of the mutation!

For all other vaccines it is also not clear yet and cannot be clear yet if they fully protect against infection and/or transmission. My worry is that people will be less precautious after they have been vaccinated. Especially for people working in hospitals it would be a serious mistake to forget about all preventions of transmissions because they will not get sick themselves anymore.

Hospitals have always been the worst place to be in any outbreak for any disease.
