I was reading their standards and it seemed like the agency was directed towards a more serious diver. No mandatory snorkels! YAAY! Courses require minimum bottom time instead of minimum number of dives. Skills must be performed effortlessly and repeatedly etc. Any NASE students or instructors on here?

I know a NASE certified diver who claimed to have been certified in one day. Apparently the bottom time requirements allowed that. He was also very proud of the elevator button on his bcd.

Sounds like what you say when you step in fresh dog crap. "Euuw, thats just nase".

I used the NASE educational materials for my Intro Cave academics. That manual was good, although it's possible that it has more to do with the writer/editor (Harry Averill) than the agency as a whole. I'm not really under the impression that many people are actively teaching anymore.

I believe @The Chairman is a NASE man. No CESA requirements in OW if I remember correctly.

Other agencies require same and a lot more, I know NAUI does.

I like NAUI. Do they have the mandatory snorkel requirement?
Nope. You do use one on OW courses, but that's to do the skills, reg to snorkel swap. Outside of that no need.

NAUI does have a lot going for it, specifically the ability to customise your courses as you see fit, as long as you "meet or exceed" the basic requirements. So, you can make neutral buoyancy a pass requirement, add in skills if needed (within reason) , add dives etc etc

The elearning is really good and its probably one of the lower cert costs for an independent instructor. The tech side has a few weird hangovers from the late 90's but they've just updated most of the tech standards so that seems to be getting better. CCR progression is still....interesting.

That is exactly what I was referring to. If you are teaching long hose primary donate then that snorkel is a major hassle. In all my diving I have never used one outside of class.
