I use a valet key and keep it on a string around my neck.

Put it in an RF blocking bag. You can find them on Amazon to help prevent key relay attacks. Then lock the door with a manual key that you can get made for like $3 at a locksmith. Bolt snap that into a safe pocket.
That's what I do. My 2018 Mazda 3 has a physical key inside a fob with a proximity sensor. You actually can lock the fob inside the car by using the key instead of hitting the lock button and closing the door, but that drains the battery on the fob. So I got one of those pouches on Amazon and I lock my fob in there and clip the physical key to a D-ring. I actually got a second physical key made fairly cheaply (without an extra fob) so it can just stay on my BC and I don't risk forgetting. I do try to rinse the key after diving, before sticking it in the lock; if there are no showers, I'll at least lick the salt off. :p

I can't believe Ford is the only company putting combination locks on their vehicles, and even they seem to be moving away from that. Seems like a missed opportunity.

My truck has the combination lock, so I leave my keys in the center console, lock the truck with the keypad and unlock it with the keypad when I get back. Only problem is my memory isn't what it used to be, and after a day of diving I have stood outside my truck looking really stupid trying to remember the code. (I do have it written down on one of the shocks, and have only had to crawl under the truck once to jog my memory...).

Holy crap that is FUNNY! :rofl3:

Monterey is 175 miles so I drive the old Prius, put the key in a baggie and in my pants inside the drysuit, finger on the door handle to lock it and just open the door after the dive, best dive vehicle around, it has 180,000 miles on it, gets 43mph full of gear.

What is a fob?

I have an extra key that I keep under the rear bumper pad that attached to top of the chrome bumper.
Lately I’m thinking of just emptying my truck out and leaving everything unlocked and windows down like they do in Bonaire. I figure if your truck is locked and someone really wants to get in they’ll just smash a window. Leave them down and they either leave your truck alone or maybe check the glove box and move on.

Get a key made that only opens the door manually. Put in BC pocket. Keys with electronics stay in car.

I used to put my electronic keyfob in the car and use the physical key to lock it. Years later I learned that the car had a button on the handle that would unlock the car if the keyfob was in the vacinity. Luckily no-one ever opened my car while I was shore diving.

Keyfob in an undersuit pocket in the drysuit. In case of a drysuit flooding this may not be great, but I'm not in the wilderness and could call in my wife to come with another key within an hour or so...

I have a faraday bag that I keep the fob in, and take a dumb key with me. But, in all honesty, most of the time I leave the doors all unlocked and the rear hatch lifted.
