Hello everybody.

I bought a divecomputer.eu unit a year ago. This thing had several bugs/problems as it has been reported several times. A lot of people had serious hardware problems (cracked screens etc) - search in other threads in here to get an idea. In my case fortunately I have only encountered software glitches like: no way to display gas related events (gas used, gas changes etc) after the dive, compass is practically rubbish, SS counter doesn't show in about half of the dives, first temperature sample on all dives is reported in subsurface as 0oC etc. Most importantly it is their zero (or better below zero) customer care. Support tickets never dealt with or very slow replies, units sent in for service and never send back to the users etc. I have seen in facebook groups people even take legal action against them.

In my case I was quite fortunate and patient. My unit is still working (with all these mentioned glitches) - I have about 150 hours/75 dives with it. I kept using it and patiently waiting for the latest update (announced as a new year resolution in their facebook account!). BTW they say in their web site that every unit gets 2 years free update support.

The latest update came out few days ago. I was so excited. But the more I read about it the more I became suspicious. From their web site ( Firmware upgrade | Divecomputer.eu - multifunctional dive computer )

"Final version 2020 - NXP
  • Removed all reported bugs
  • Implemented the latest chip compass with tilt compensation
  • Hardware improvements to enhance the stability of software

Important! This version of the firmware is dedicated to the latest mainboard hardware signed as NXP version. This version closes future development of the divecomputer.eu device. After long test we can’t find any software bugs and also hardware is simplified to the maximum. Previous versions of divecomputer.eu can be upgraded to this mainboard with NXP software only in the factory."

and further down:

"From October 2020 any updates of the divecomputer.eu will be made only at the factory service. If you have divecomputer.eu device dated before NXP version and the device is in 2 years free upgrades period please contact service at help.divecomputer.eu "

I contacted them to ask instructions on how to proceed with it and here is their reply (copy paste from their email):

"Dear Emmanouil
Version NXP need change the mainboard. Cost of upgrade to NXP revision is about 100 EUR.
Any upgrade we make only in service in Poland.
Free update is valid for 2 years from the time of purchase for hardware which You buy. Does not include motherboard replacement
Best regards"

Not only they sold this piece of crap, not only they promised free support for 2 years, not only they have such crappy support, but now that the latest update is out they ask us to pay extra 100 euros!!!

No f*cking way I am going to give them another cent.

Until now despite all the problems mentioned above I kept a neutral stance against them - after all they seem to be a new company and they seemed to deserve some more time.
But now this is too much.

Beware people!! Stay away from this plague as much as possible.

If only there was some company out there in the universe that made dive computers and had a good reputation for service...

Lets be real...the cheapest computer that “some company” had until a few months ago was ~$900. That’s $300 more than the U.S. & Canada version of the computer in question. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

divecomputer.eu is the same company as Light For Me. They are "fame" from very poor service even in Poland. recently they sold right to this computer to another company
McLean Extreme McLean Extreme 5 dive computer which made fork for their firmware and created new one.

Interesting info. I wonder, would it be possible to load McLean's firmware to divecomputer.eu devices ???
That is assuming of course that McLean proves to have better software engineers AND that it supports older units.

True, but you tend to get what you pay for.
And if you search these boards a bit there will be a ton of people praising the computers from that "some company", and there are also people praising the Suunto Eon which I guess would land somewhere in the middle of those in terms of price?
I love my Perdix but it is definitely not the best computer for everyone.

It seems apples to apples to anyone who thinks $300 for good after sales support and a computer that is not buggy in the first place is worth it...

Hi Stephen,
If something seems to good to be true, it often/always is. The thing resembles (one of) the best divecomputers on the market, seems capable to do just about everything but make you coffee and does it for less than half the price of ALL the competition. I am afraid you'll end up buying another computer (from another brand).

I am an avid reader of dive kit reviews and have never even come across this brand or the type. If it were really as good as it sounds, it would be all over the diving internet. But it's not.

My recommendation before buying expensive equipment: online research.

I’m planning on buying one of their computers shortly. Much of that decision is driven by their customer service reputation.

Just making the observation that price point wise...they aren’t even in the same ballpark. A more valid comparison would be “you should have gotten ‘x’ computer that was in the same price range.”

~$600 is not an insignificant amount of money. I’m sure the thought process was that it would be a good VALUE. Yes, not “some company” performance....but adequate performance and longevity for the money. I think that would have been a reasonable expectation for the money, but that’s just my two cents.

That being said...I thought about buying one of the U.S. versions of this when it came out, but I wasn’t comfortable spending the money on it, given the lack of information out there about them at the time.

Price wise...it was on the high end of what I was considering spending. Right where the new offering from “some company” is now.:D
