Personally I’d rather see another USS Tang or USS Harder, or a number of submarines that should have their name on another boat.

But Adm Rickover called it when he said, “Fish don’t vote”.

Agreed. Having lived in Hawaii and spending many days at the Arizona memorial I feel this is a wrong step.

Although I’m opposed to using the name, it is for other reasons. Naming another ship Arizona is quite an honour, since there are less ships in the US Navy now, than when it sank. BB39 Arizona is a memorial not a Naval vessel, as it was decommissioned in the same month it sank.

Commissioning another Arizona is a tribute to her and her men, not disrespect.

My first submarine was the USS Grayling (SSN 646). The previous USS Grayling (SS 209) was lost during WWII, rammed by a Japanese ship.

It is not uncommon to honor previously lost ships in this way. No disrespect is intended, it is meant to honor the memory of the ship.
