I'm a Fish!
Has anybody here heard anything about the Cyklon X, from those sylphs, over at Poseidon? I was recently contacted about working on one, and wondered what the hell they were talking about.

So, for anyone in the know, have they simply paired one of their MK3 Xstream firsts; cranked the IP, not to 10, but 11 bar (a la Spinal Tap); and swapped out some o-rings for EAN and O2 use? Any internal futzing with either stage, that I should know about?

If that be the case, they're a bit late to the game, with that idea, since I know a number of divers, including myself, who have already done just that, years ago . . .

I don't believe there has been any swapping of O-rings, but there's shouldn't be anything other than cranking the IP up which as you mentioned, is nothing new....

Yeah, thanks, I didnt think they did or could do much to either stage. This time around, it is simply advertised as being "updated for Nitrox and Oxygen."

So what; big deal . . .

This is a non-story.
CE approval has finally been obtained for the usual Cyklon IP, for the XStream first stage.
They needed a name: Cyklon X

The oring?
Yeah there's always been one more oring in the 3960 for the Jetstream. But that doesn't apply to the XStream.

End of story.

CE approval has cobalt been obtained for the usual Cyklon IP, for the XStream first stage..

Huh, did you stroke out?

Phone autocorrect. Sorry. Didn't read what I'd typed before responding.
"CE approval has finally been obtained for the usual Cyklon IP, for the XStream first stage."

Thanks for the wake-up! :)

Seeing as the original question is answered, I’ll risk a thread hijack:

What’s a Cyklon like? I’ve used Jetstreams and XStreams, on Odin and XStream firsts. Didn’t like any of them: bubbles in my face and weird-feeling breathing characteristics. The Cyklon has fascinated me, too, but given my experience with the others, I’ve not gone out of my way to acquire one.

I’m imagining bubbles will be similar (or worse?) than the jets. I’m imagining without the servo, though, that breathing will be different. Similar to, say, an old Sherwood unbalanced second?

But I love the ides of the all-metal ones, and I think they look way cool. (Also unlike the Jets, though the XStreams look OK enough.)

They "sip" like any unbalanced second. If tuned properly, they breathe very light. They have a metal on metal mechanism, so if you dive warm salt water, they need a warm 1/3 vinegar soak every six months, and retuning from time to time.
The metal ones are a little mouth-heavy, but both versions are indestructible.
Yes, they breathe completely differently than the Jetstream, and also need a much higher IP.

What you were experiencing were poorly-tuned regulators; that's it. I had a few co-workers over the years, who had echoed your opinion, until they used mine, which I service myself. You can take the finest rigs and make them run like sucking a straw at ten meters; conversely, you can make the inhalation or purge blow you right out of the water.

Now, they all dive Poseidon and I service their gear; no complaints.

I have a few of the metal Cyklons, old and new; and they breathe beautifully, provided that they are well-tuned . . .

next time you are down in FL I will let you give one of mine a try. They breath surprisingly well in the water. I have a couple they I have used on buddy bottles. The older cyklon 300 first stages are really nice and compact. And the second stage can be bungeed to the neck of a tank to be very compact.
