We are going to be in Bali for ~10 days (20th to the 29th) of this December (this Friday). We will be splitting our stay between Jalan Seririt - Singaraja (near Spice Beach Club) and Nusa Dua. I would really appreciate if you could suggest a few good dives around both these places and also dive shops that you would recommend - thanks much!

After a bunch of reading up, it appears that Menjangan is likely the best place to dive along with PJ during our first leg of the trip (Lovina beach area) and there is pretty much no diving in Nusa Dua (closest is about 60 kms away in Pandangbai). Is this an accurate assessment? Is there anything that I have missed?

This dive map around Bali is pretty good one. Menjangan is not bad, but from Lovina, it is as far a drive as to Tulamben (better dive sites than Menjangan) so, I would might just as well find a dive operator in Lovina.

Around Nusa Dua, I would pick Nusa Penida, like the Manta Point.

Enjoy Bali!

Thanks much, Dan - appreciate the input! The map is great. Any dive operator recommendations?

I went diving out of Nusa Dua, 20 or so years ago. The site wasn't that far away but seemed nice enough. Of course, I don't recall the company and with the amount of time that has passed the site in that bay may very well be toast.

I definitely agree that you should get a dive op to take you over to Nusa Penida for a day of diving, and more than once if possible.

Where are you staying in Nusa Dua?

Before considering going to Nusa Penida, make sure you check the conditions in the days before regarding Manta Point specifically. For the past 6 weeks we've had significantly bad visibility and barely saw any mantas ... never happened before like this but that's what's been going on lately :)

We've stopped going to Manta Point until it gets better ... Crystal Dive was fairly normal and the drift dives in the north good as always :)

Thanks for the heads up - will definitely check with the dive shop before deciding to head out.

I was there in December 2017 and visibility was worse than in September 2019. What causes the poor visibility in December?

Presumably you are committed to staying in the South. The diving in Eastern Bali is wonderful and there are some very nice resorts in Tulamben and Candidasa nearer the best diving. Re Penida and Manta Point, reputable dive shops won’t take you there unless the surface conditions are favourable.
