Looking for resort based diving for Dec that is not Similans / Surin / Phuket / Phi Phi.
Is there anyplace on the west coast still with reasonably healthy reefs and wildlife?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Over the past 5 years have done multiple trips to places above and the experience regrettably was not so great. Big crowds, little wildlife, poor visibility. Hoping there is some magical place still left.

You have just excluded the West Coast diving in your post with the exception of Hin Daeng, Hin Muang and Koh Haa. All accessible on daytrips from Koh Lanta and liveaboard from Phuket, offering really good diving.

Second Koh Tao. Just returned from 2 weeks diving with Master Divers.

Or, Koh Lipe and use Davy Jones Locker, was there 2 weeks in March.
I used Davy Jones Locker in Koh Tao for my tec45 and I couldn't be happier.

Have a look at Koh Lanta. You can dive at Koh Ha, and also at Hin Daeng/Hin Muang for the manta rays. Check out Lanta Diver...

Koh Tao is in the EAST coast.
I think Koh Lanta is probably the only well known place left.

Yep, Koh Lanta is a good shout. Nice island to stay on too. As well as Koh Haa and Hin Daeng/Muang, the Bida sites are also visited from Lanta.

Koh Tao has been mentioned, which, I'm sure you're aware, is in the Gulf of Thailand. We were there in August this year and the diving on the east coast of the island was better than I'd expected, and not too crowded. We dived with Calypso in Tanote Bay who were excellent.
However, you're probably better off on the Andaman side that time of year.
