Some discussion of this item started in another thread and was taking that thread way OT. So, here's a thread just to talk about the new rEvo BOV.

I received mine today.

The kit, as it was offered to me, includes:

BOV
Fittings for both ends of both breathing hoses, to connect the hoses to the BOV and to the CLs on the rEvo case
Low Pressure hose to connect from the BOV inlet to an offboard BO cylinder 1st stage
Clip to mount HUD on BOV

That kit is 500 Euro.

I was able to get my kit changed a bit. I got a clip to mount my NERD, instead of the standard HUD. And I got a shorter LP hose, to connect from the BOV to the onboard dil manifold. It also came with 2 clips on the breathing hose that hold the BOV LP hose, so that it doesn't float separate from the breathing hose.

I paid additional for new breathing hoses, and a new dil manifold with one more port than the original manifold had.

I needed new breathing hoses because I had Cooper hoses and, apparently, the Cooper hoses will not fit on the fittings that come with the BOV.

I asked about a QD for the LP hose to connect to the BOV. I was told that the nut that attaches the LP hose to the BOV should only be finger tight, so I really don't need a QD. I ordered one anyway, from Piranha, so that I have the option of disconnecting from the onboard dil and having the BOV connected to a whip from offboard (without having to remove the onboard LP hose and plug the port in the manifold).

@Tassi Devil Diver You asked about quick connections from the loop hoses to the BOV. If you look at the picture, you can see that the loop hoses have threaded "nuts" that screw onto the BOV, so they come off just as easily as the loop hoses unscrew and detach from the rEvo case itself. It is definitely VASTLY easier to inspect the mushrooms with the BOV than it was with the stock DSV.

You also asked whether the LP input to the BOV could be swapped to the right side. Looking at the case where the LP hose connects, I'm going to say the answer to that question is no. I think the second picture will make that pretty clear. I get what you are saying about how you feed your Shrimp, but I think this BOV is not giving to give good hose routing to feed it from the end port on the stock manifold. The new manifold was only 32 Euro. And the LP hose that you would need (i.e. correct length) can be substituted in the kit for no extra charge.

Also tagging @uwxplorer - in case you want in on this thread.

Your dil manifold, does it have a female QC6?

I ask because the Fathom MAV comes with a QC6 and that is how your BO hooks up. The BOV also connects by an LP hose that you screw on finger tight. There is no need for a "quick disconnect" because if you have an issue with the BOV you just bail all the way out to the necklaced reg that comes off the same bottle that the dil MAV hooks up to.

The dil manifold only has whatever I connect to it, which means for starters, no QC6.

My plan to put a QD on the BOV is so that if I decide to not run it off onboard dil and run it from offboard instead, I can disconnect the hose that goes from the BOV to the dil manifold and the QD will seal that hose off. Otherwise, I'd have to plug the hose or remove the hose from the manifold and plug the manifold port.

To be perfectly clear, though, I feel like I'm doing a bit of feeling my way through all this. I probably won't even put the QD fitting on, to start.

My top priority is actually to put on the BOV and log another 8 hours on the loop (to get to 50) and then go for MOD2 training. There, I will let my instructor advise me on how I should actually configure and use it.

It will be interesting, at that point, to learn if rEvo has provided my instructor with an instructor update that gives factory training standards for using the BOV and what those standards are.

Asking from a place of genuine curiosity, why would you not want a QC6? Not only do you evidently not want one but I can almost hear a scrunched up nose of disgust at the mear thought of a QC6 on the MAV/manifold

I am a newb CCR diver and I know the Fathom is very different from the REVO, but the ability to plug any gas that has a male QC6 into my system is a very nice feature. I have a male QC6 on all of my bailout/safety/O2 bottles.

I’ll bite for that as an also-noob. I typically have 4 male BCD fittings on me when I dive. They are all the same. I have an extra BC hose on both my BO regs. I can plug anything anywhere. To get the same with QC6 I would have to convert my drysuit and wing as well as my MAVs. I’m just not quite sure I’m willing to do that.

No disgust at all! I am seriously considering adding a QC6 hose to the dil manifold, so that I can plug in any offboard gas to breathe via the BOV.

I'm just not there yet, and I think that is something I will defer until I go for my MOD2 training, then let my instructor tell me how I should set it up for future, deeper, diving.

I want this thread to be about the BOV itself, not another debate about how to configure the gases used, etc.. So, I'll leave it at that.

We are in our newbness together. :)

So, my understanding is that a BCD whip will not flow enough gas to use for OC breathing at depth. That is, for example, why all Air2 (Safe Second - BCD inflators that are also an OC reg) have non-standard nipples on them and require special LP inflator hoses to be hooked to them. They use a nipple that is bigger than a standard BCD inflator, so that they can flow sufficient volume of gas.

I think that is why people use QC6 fittings. It will flow enough volume of gas to feed an OC reg at depth.

A BCD whip is fine, however, to use for inflating a drysuit or wing or plumbing offboard gas into the loop.

I put it all together and took a few breaths off the BOV in OC mode. *ahem* It does not breathe like my ScubaPro or Atomic regs. Ummm.... not really even close.

I have emailed the guy at rEvo HQ that has been helping me. I asked for the actual numbers for the WOB on the BOV in both OC and CC mode, as well as the WOB on the stock DSV. If I get the data, I will share it here.

Now I am curious to breathe off a Shrimp and/or a Divesoft BOV in OC mode, to see how they compare.

Now that I think of it, I will email rEvo again and also inquire regarding what the dil IP should be. Maybe the BOV feels really stiff because the IP on my dil 1st stage is set lower than expected. I don't know....

500 euro. Not bad. Regarding the QC6 aren't they set up with a flow stop when disconnected to reduce water ingress when swapping lines?
